Well, having a pre-existing subscription base and spending some money on p.r. might ensure better ticket sales, no?

Give me Randal Keith or Aaron Lazar any day . . .
Chitty's Chicago engagement
 Jan 23 2009, 12:31:20 AM
Unfortunately, I think "Chitty" and the tour of "Mary Poppins," scheduled to open in March in Chicago, were in competition for the same audience base . . . and really, who can compete with the marketing resources that Disney has?

I find this incarnation of "Chitty" to be utterly charming. The adaptation stays much closer to the movie than the Broadway production did. Both the script and the actors have a great deal of emotional honesty. The sets and the costumes are from Broadway and the show comes off as the 1st National Tour that it is. The weak spots have to do with (predictably) the unreliable elements of the show: the dogs and the mechanics.

I saw her at the chiropractor on Thursday and wondered if she had left already!

Last night at Gypsy:

Older man (65-ish) to his wife: Who's Patsy?
Wife: What?
Man: Patsy! Who's Patsy? This is supposed to be good because of someone named Patsy who's in this show!

re: How are the Production at White Plains Performing Arts Center.

I've only seen one show at WPPAC - How to Succeed -- and it was decent. Many cast members certainly had great experience and credits, and their performances were quite good. However, the "greener" cast members were flailing, and, in my opinion, through no fault of their own. There seemed to be little to no direction.

And although the space is difficult to work in (since it's a renovated movie theatre and a non-union house for the stage crew), they've done the most they possibly could

You'll most likely be seeing Katie Clarke as Glinda. Sorry about that.

I don't think there is a more beautiful duet than "Say it Somehow" from Piazza.

But you could also look at "Home" from the Yeston/Kopit Phantom. :0)

re: The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

I saw the Two Rivers (NJ) production of Umbrellas last year, and while I didn't love the writing, I thought it was beautifully directed and incredibly well-acted (especially by Heather Spore, as Genevieve).

They were still looking for a Baby June as of two days ago. I think everything else has been cast.

I believe Merwin Foard is covering Norm Lewis and Cicily Daniels is covering SRS (perhaps 2 covers for Ursula?).

Don't know how reliable this is, but I heard that Jason Kraack (u/s on 3NT) is playing Valjean.

I love that the reviewer made her into "The Henstock." Hilarious.

What are the MSU theatre dept. offerings, if any? I thought they usually did at least one big musical a year.
re: Back Stage / Pit Voices - Why no more?
 Mar 16 2007, 04:06:59 PM
A friend of mine was just offered the role of a pit singer/Glinda u/s in the Chicago company of Wicked . . . which even she thought was weird, because there are no pit singers used in other companies of Wicked.
