re: Who Do You Sound Like?
 Sep 20 2008, 09:01:53 PM
I've been told I sound like idina Menzel a lot... but then again, it's a skill of mine. I can sing like: Idina Menzel, Linda Eder, Caissie Levy (in WIcked L.A.), and a bit of Julia Murney. And when I sing in my head voice, I sound a lot like Leslie Henstock... that animated sound.

But mostly Idina, since I have a higherish speaking voice and a natural high belt. And I sing along to her way too much than I should.

Bumping this...

I want to add to the list Linda Eder (played Lucy in Jekyll & Hyde)- have you heard some of her solo stuff? Her soprano is GOREGOUS and she has such a pure mixed/chest belt.

Also, Leslie Henstock. I saw her as Cosette in Les Mis on tour and she was amazing... and has an amazing high belt when singing Defying Gravity.

Nowadays, it's practically required for actressess' to be able to sing both soprano as well as have a full belt voice.

JULIA MURNEY!

So. Tonight was her last night as the green girl in Wicked. Um, she's pretty much amazing and funny as heck.

Kendra Kassebaum as G(a)linda is pretty much the funniest person alive. She was just soooo hyper and over the top funny, it was insane. Her "Popular" was killer; better than Megan Hilty when she was on B'Way. I still can't get over how much she's gotten into the role since I saw her a year ago.

Julia's "The Wizard and I" was killer! Ah...her last "..And I!" had so much power and just filled the entire auditorium! Sadly, "Defying Gravity" had a crazy fast tempo and Julia didn't hold out the "Bring me down" 's as long as Dee does on the OBCR, but the end was awesome. Oh, her "No Good Deed" was the best. Ever. The last "Again!" was just...wow...I got chills! Um...Her and Sebastian Arcelus's "As Long As You're Mine" was so, so, so wow. They really had amazing chemistry together and their voices blended so nicely.

Mkay, on the note of Sebastian, yeah he's pretty much as good as Norbert Leo Butz, in my book. In ALAYM, the line "..It's up that I fell", he held out "fell" and I pretty much died. Doesn't hurt that he's not that bad lookin' either. I really liked him more than Derrick Williams, whom I saw in LA last year. Anyhoo...yes, he was really good and I was HIGHLY impressed.

OH! "For Good" was such a tear jerker for Julia and Kendra, Kendra espcially. I could see the tears falling down her cheeks, it was so sad! Julia's voice kept breaking as she sang and it was so beautiful. They blended so nicely.

So, the end of the show there was a ten-fifteen minute standing ovation, and Julia and Kendra got flowers..it was nice. I took like, 7 pics...some of which are blury, but I don't care. I was third row, at the two leading ladies last show. and was in amazement. New word.

Stage door! Kendra was the first to come out and she was instantly SWAMPED with people. I got a pic with her and she signed my Grimmerie. A few minutes later, Sebastian came out but I only got him to sign my book, though my mom got really good pics of him, hehe. So, waiting, waiting, waiting and finally Ms Murney herself appears, green paint still in her hairline and in her ears (I know the feeling!) and she was so sweet! Henry tried to get a picture of us and it wouldn't work so I said forget it because there were a million people waiting and I felt bad. But I still wanted a picture. COnvo went like this:

Me: Um, Julia? I got my camera to work now -laughs a bit-

Julia- Oh cool!

-camera decides to be a jerk-

Henry- Forget it, Kas.

Julia- Leave her alone, it'll work.

Finally, it took, and I said thank you and she signed my CD cover from her solo CD (everyone must buy it) and left. Then I found the sets people were loading. The cornfield, Elphie's bed from Popular, the Wizard's head, and the blackboard from Dillamond's class. I was a happy girl. Still am.
