2024-2025 Touring Season
 Apr 29 2024, 12:41:05 PM

For the National Tour of "& Juliet" there is 4 week gap between Portland and Costa Mesa.

Perhaps those weeks will be for the Los Angeles engagement.

Still unconfirmed as of late-April, so we shall see what happens.

Center Theatre Group/Los Angeles combines Ahmanson Theatre and Mark Taper Forum into one season.  The un-announced musical for summer 2025 will likely, "& Juliet" (National Tour).

What are the statuses of "The Secret Garden" and "Transparent Musical"?

Both performed at CTG/Los Angeles last year and flopped.

Warren Carlyle should stop being a Director and stay with being a good Choreographer.

Similar to "The Secret Garden" (Ahmanson Theatre, Los Angeles), his directions are weak: Lacked focus on the story. (IMHO).

TRANSPARENT musical (based on the TV series) to premiere at the Mark Taper Forum in 2023, directed by Tina Landau

Next Step:

Hire a Dramatist to revise and rewrite this excessive "wordy" libretto.

This is a musical adaptation, so let the audience figure out the premise.

This musical is a dead-end with its current state.

Not talking about the Ahmanson, which is where Ghost Story and Lehman played. Talking about the TAPER - that's whose season has just been cancelled."

NOT TALKING TO YOU!  I responded to another user.  Duh?!

"King James" "2:22 Ghost Story" and "The Lehman Trilogy" were good productions at Center Theatre Group.

However, "Signs of Intelligent Light" at that performed at the Mark Taper in November 2022, did not age well, in my opinion.

Center Theatre Group productions are lack-luster, at best. Too much "Woke". I come to the theater to be entertained, wooed, and walk away happy. I don't come to the theatre to be informed, educated and conscious of social injustice and racial inequality. I watch the nightly news on TV for that.

They should stop blaming Covid-19.  Broadway in Hollywood, Pasadena Playhouse, S Coast Repertory, Laguna Playhouse, La Mirada Performing Arts Center, and Geffen Playhouse perf

Here is the age-old question:

Will these National Tours launching for the 2020-21 Season be Equity or Non-Equity?

Thanks goodness for the Smith Center of the Performing Arts in Las Vegas.

Those strip-down-abridged musicals in the casinos were awful and expensive.

Goldberg and her other co-hosts probably received complimentary tickets to these plays/musicals from the producers. Free publicity. Free marketing.

CENTER THEATER GROUP - Worst Season Ever?
 May 11 2019, 05:39:26 AM

TORCH SONG didn't stand a chance.  The play flopped on Broadway. A financial disaster without a return on investment, so no funding to launch the national tour. Could not earn a profit. Left the producers in debt.

Center Theatre Group offered to pay some of the expense to re-mount the play at their Ahmanson but it was out of their budget.  They also considered their Mark Taper Forum as an alternative which has lower overhead costs.

CENTER THEATER GROUP - Worst Season Ever?
 May 4 2019, 05:03:47 AM

I've been an Ahmanson Theatre season subscriber off and on for 29 years since I was in college when the theatre had "Student Subscriber prices".  Does anyone remember "Ahmanson @ the Doolittle"?

I also passed on their 2019-2020 season.

Without their 7th confirmed musical/play for summer 2020, I will not waste my money.

Ahmanson Theatre 2019-20 Season Unannounced show: Any guesses?
 Apr 19 2019, 02:13:48 PM

The Center Theatre Group Ahmanson Theatre (Los Angeles, California) has yet announced their 7th Production that performs in summer 2020.

Any inside information or guesses before they officially announce later this year?

OFF TOPIC:

Speaking about "return engagements" for next season at the Ahmanson (i.e., Swan Lake, The Book of Mormon" )  I wish the 7th unannounced show will be the original "The Phantom of the Opera", which performed at the Ahmanson twice.

I saw the current US National Tour recently. The production was adequate, but it looked like a college/university production at best. I recommend the Hal Prince's production to anyone. Honestly, "

Betty Buckley is out again?
 Feb 18 2019, 01:24:25 AM

Betty Buckley performed the role of Dolly on the closing night of the Los Angeles engagement at the Pantages Theatre. (Feb 17).

Her speaking voice sounded scratchy but her singing/belting voice was fine.

Overall, I'm happy to see her again since "Grey Gardens" at the Ahmanson in summer 2016.  I wish her continued success.
