re: ...does this freak anyone else out? (Into the Woods)
 Apr 18 2007, 07:44:01 PM
I've just now seen the British cast on YouTube and I had to go back to the original post to see what was meant to be so freaky. The big wolf head hadn't struck me at all - it's a fella in a wolf get-up, that's going to be weird however it's done.

And so far as the penis is concerned, I'm behind Eric (ahem) - I found that terribly distracting the first time I saw the DVD. I still find it tough to look away from it. It's just so . . . unapologetic.

Why is Fame the Musical so lame?

I've seen this show a couple of times and it's just pointless. The story has characters who are - let's be kind - homages to the movie/tv kids, who have been inspired to attend the Academy of Performing Arts because of the film and TV show. They then spend the show in near-identical scenarios, while singing songs with similar sentiments to the ones wee like, only not as good.

Why not just have a stage version of Alan Parker's film and the subsequent telly show? Rights?

I love the show, and have a cartoon version of it somewhere. I've not watched it though as I'm scared of being disappointed. what a saddo I am.

I've only got the London cast recording with Susie Blake - the new Mad Morrible in London's Wicked - as Sally Brown. Great stuff.

M-I-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-I-P-I-Edgar Allen POE!

I'm confused - was ITW not meant to be based on the panto tradition? It sounds like this aspect wasn't brought out until it was produced in London.

Thank you. What an awful lyric - not representative of the rest of the show, thankfully.
Snoopy the Musical query

I love this show, but there's one lyric I've never been able to work out - I spent years trying to get even the words before the net helped:

The World According To Snoopy
Is big enough to go around
Four billion people plus, that’s the “pop” of
Still we got room for sitting on top of

But what's the meaning of those two last lines together? The last line must refer to the kennel, but 'pop'? Obviously, this is of great import. I thank you.

The nest ITW I've seen was a bunch of teenagers at the Edinburgh Festival a couple of years back - they were stunning.

Anyway, OLC ordered!

I've not heard the London recording, I'd better track it down. I'll certainly check out the clips, thanks for the heads up.

And Julia McKenzie is, of course, a goddess. Is she a Dame yet, or nothing like it?

'Does anyone still wear a hat?'

Ooh, I'm hearing Elaine Stritch - Broadway baby, maybe?

Sweeney and Winston, thank you so much! If you're ever in Auld Reekie, claim a haggis from me.

I saw Wicked in London and wasn't overly enamoured - it sorely needed a big number at the end, the show just fizzled out. And humour based on malapropisms is lazy. Also, I found the songs rather unmemorable, though I now like about four from repeated CD listens. And the wheelchair sister was cloying.

Apart from that, it was great

Anyway, to scenery - I was most confused by the huge dragon over the stage, and clock dial at the back. Neither
