New Hadestown Casting
 Aug 15 2023, 01:28:53 PM

I've heard Reeve has some vacation dates coming up but haven't heard any details - does anyone have any info? I'd love to revisit this beautiful show but I cannot sit through Reeve's bewildering performance one more time.

Fourth, you forgot about Spring Awakening.

Sondheim's Final Musical HERE WE ARE will premiere at The Shed this fall (No, really!)

Is this just your guess or do you have inside info? Based on the ages, I have a hard time believing Amber is Woman. Rachel Bay Jones and Tracie Bennett read much older than her (to me.)

i'm guessing Amber Gray is Marianne, Rachel Bay Jones is Claudia, and Micaela Diamond is Fritz.

EDIT: Oops, forgot Tracie Bennet was a part of this. I'd say she is likely Claudia and Rachel Bay Jones is (likely) Woman. Or, vice versa. Fairly certain Amber is Marienne and Micaela is Fritz.

Hate that two of the roles don't have names.

Do you all think that a membership will be required to get tickets to this? Or do you think I'll be safe waiting until general sale starts? I'm so much more nervous now looking at the cast, and I want to do everything I can to secure a ticket - any ticket, for that matter.

Lea Michele as Fanny - Funny Girl

Bear88 - you're really, really going to enjoy yourself. Lea is an absolute supernova on that stage. Not only is she in thrilling voice, but her comedic prowess is on full display. You can tell she has so clearly researched every detail about Fanny Brice's life and it all comes out of her. She leaves nothing for herself and gives it all to the audience - just like Fanny. I'm happy you've got tickets. I'm hoping to see Lea at least twice more before the show closes.

Obviously, this would be a definitive case of color-blind casting that probably wouldn't get the attention a Hispanic girl's casting would. A lot of people would probably applaud. Why is that? A Cuban American is a person of color, isn't she? Do people think Hispanics have more opportunities?"

There are Black Jews. There are Korean Jews. There are Cuban Jews

While it may be true that non-Jews have played Leo and Lucille, in THIS production, it was important to cast Jewish actors to tell a story that is inextricably about those characters’ Jewishness. The same is true of this Funny Girl production. If they had no intention of only casting Jewish actors as Fanny, they shouldn’t h

That "poor girl" likely saw the call and said screw it. Whatever happens, her reputation is soiled and that's on her, nobody else.

BALDERDASH. Katerina McCrimmon was chosen to portray Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl" because she was the best candidate.

You are just contributing further to the noise without actually answering my question: how can casting prevent that situation from happening without breaking the law or putting actors in the uncomfortable position of confirming their racial/ethnic identity?

attempting to hold a fully grown, adult woman with multiple professional credits accountable in something that is - by the casting team's notice - unacceptable is not anywhere near dragging her.

a lot of us are just trying to make sense out of this casting, which is why we're posting about it.

you really, really need to learn that words mean things. i have not seen one person on this board even attempt to "drag" her.

Lea Michele is Jewish and has always identified as such, most commonly calling herself "half Jewish" in interviews - many of which are widely available for you to peruse. There is a video of her on Seth's Chatterbox where she talks about booking Fiddler and one day in rehearsal realizing that she was one of only three or four people in the cast who was actually Jewish - and although she said it with a joking cadence, she does mention feeling a little upset by that fact. well y'all fought really hard on this board a year ago saying that Beanie accepting the role was 100% her fault - at least her casting was authentic.

but sure, the grown ass adult actor who has a broadway credit under her belt and just got done doing Piazza at Encores not a month ago definitely needs to be defended for accepting a role that isn't hers to play. go off, babes!! defend your diva.

indeed - although casting teams should do their due diligence when hiring people. and they did, i suppose. they included a note for casting Fanny, Emma, and Rose, which read (paraphrasing): specifically looking for actors of Jewish descent for (these) role(s).
