EUREKA DAY Previews Dec 12
2024, 09:52:27 PM
I thought the play was a fine comedy with moments of brilliance meshed with a bit of dark awkwardness almost in an Edward Albee type way. The whole ensemble carries the play forward even though it's a two joke play about political correctness overlapped with social responsibility. It's rare for a comedy to encourage discussion afterwards so I give it props for that accomplishment. The hour and forty five minutes flew fairly quickly for me. I don't think it's brilliant, but it&

GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS To Play The Palace Starting 3/10/25 Dec 10

Amy Archer said: "And you all scoffed at me! With 12 weeks, they have 800 seats on the floor they can price exorbitantly, plus another 550 in the mezz to play around with, depending on demand. It can potentially gross more than $2M a week there. I think the producer of GGR, who shall go nameless, looked at what is happening with Good Night, and Good Luck, and decided to try to emulate the same, even bringing capacity to a similarly sized 1400 seats by closing the balcony."
Why should the producer go nameless? It's public record. It's Jeffrey Richards. He produces ALL of Mamet's plays. It's on IBDB.COM https://www.ibdb.com/broadway-production/glengarry-glen-ross-541094

Menzel-led REDWOOD to transfer to Broadway this season Nov 25

RippedMan said: "I mean can’t they just redesign be set for any space? I don’t think that dictates which theater too much. I think they think Mendel will sell tickets. Which has proven to do."
Proven? Citations needed. "If/Then" flopped and the play "Skin Tight" at the Roundabout bombed. In the words of Janet Jackson, what have you done for me lately?

Patti LuPone called a privileged, racially microaggressive bully by Hell's Kitchen cast member Nov 4
2024, 09:04:05 AM
A friend of mine saw Hell's Kitchen yesterday. She said the volume was so loud that she nearly left. She felt the amplification in her bones. One can choose to believe Lapone's position or not, but when a friend of mine says it's too loud, I believe them. Louder does not equate to better. In fact, loudness can be used to cover flaws. I'll say it again. I have no issue if OSHA regulated decibel volumes in all theaters to protect the audience, actors, and musicians.

DEATH BECOMES HER Previews Nov 3
2024, 10:52:08 AM
One very annoying TikTok “influencer” at the stage door kept raving about how this is the show that’s going to be Best Musical and also workshopping catchy lines (“NOW…a BeSt MuSiCaL?!)for his eventual review. Oh thank goodness for that. An influencer (who very likely could've been paid) is declaring Best Musical for '25... 7 months before the nominations come out. Must be clairvoyant. I wonder if they have stock tips too.

Many Broadway shows are excessively loud today. Patti should know since her Lincoln Center production of "Anything Goes" in the 1980's was one of the first Broadway musicals to use mics because they put the ship's band on stage and she had to sing over them. Musicals have been mic'ed up ever since. Many of the legends in musicals never used mics. Heck, opera singers can still hit the back row of a 3000 seat hall. But sound levels are getting out of hand. I thought "Six" was so loud that I had to

Bernadette Peters & Lea Salonga to Lead OLD FRIENDS On Broadway Oct 24
2024, 07:28:15 PM
I saw it in London. For a Sondheim tribute, it really doesn't get much better than this. Peters sounded fine when I saw her and Lea's voice was tremendous. I won't ruin the Sunday In The Park moment but I nearly teared up when it happened which is something I rarely do. The worst thing though is Janie Dee opting out of the transfer. She's amazing in it, but as she said in her cabaret show in Edinburgh this summer, she feels that flying across the pond would add to the carbon footprint which she'

Beats me. Feels like TOOTSIE 2.0.
It's going to have to appeal primarily to people who didn't watch the TV show, without alienating those who actually liked

Late sound cues, clunky scenery, the amount of times you could see the stage crew (not in scrubs.) You would think it was a dress rehearsal. Julianna seemed to be over acting and Peter Gallagher (who looks great) needs to lear his lines. He cut off all of the ac

OM only has a cast of six (not "Six", obviously) and has found a comfortable home in the West End's Fortune Theatre of 432 seats. Too big of a house and the cast members would look lost and the Music Box is over 1000. One of the smallest theaters they could get was the Golden of 800 seats where I think aside fr

STEREOPHONIC Announces Final Extension Oct 1

EDSOSLO858 said: "Makes sense, should be a rather quick turnaround for The Picture of Dorian Gray, so I hear." Nope. "Operation: Mincemeat" was officially announced today for the Golden. If I thought DG was going in this season, my bet is the Belasco. I hear "Maybe Happy Ending" isn't selling and DG would be a good fit there being a one person show in a modest size theater.

STEREOPHONIC Announces Final Extension Oct 1
2024, 05:09:36 PM
ErmengardeStopSniveling said: "Per Michael Schulman of The New Yorker, STEREOPHONIC has been hit with a lawsuit by Ken Caillat& Steven Stiefel, who wrote the book MAKING RUMOURS, about the recording sessions for Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours." Caillat was the engineer of that recording and the book is told from his perspective. Some aspects of STEREOPHONIC beara striking resemblance to what's chronicled in the book, despite being about a fictional band.
Caillat & Stiefelare suing David Adjmi and the producers"for their flagrant and willful infringement of Plaintiffs' copyrighted work," saying that the play"uncannily duplicates"sequences of events depicted in the book. David Adjmi has downplayed the similarities:“When writing Stereophonic I drew from multiple sources—including autobiographical details from my own life—to create a deeply personal work of fiction. Any similarities to Ken Caillat’s excellent book are unintentional.”
The Schulman articlenotes a few glaring similarities, andsince Adjmi acknowledges having read the book, there may be a case here. Perhaps there'll be some kind of quiet financial settlement/profit-sharing agreement to make this go away.

After trying to watch this and leaving at intermission, my immediate response is this was the worst version of "Fleetwood Mac: Behind The Music" ever. The egos, the drugs, people sleeping with each other, but with worse writing and forgettable music. I thought maybe the members of Fleetwood Mac would sue the writers for not obtaining the life rights. For the author saying this isn't based on Fleetwood Mac is laughable.
