Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/14/24
 Jul 17 2024, 11:00:57 PM

I think there are two reasons for that.

1. Because the grosses are fairly unremarkable this week. Nothing stood out, or made me even go "Hmm." Which isn't shocking in the middle of July.

2. Because lately the grosses threads have been following an unfortunate pattern of Flash saying something asinine (usually involving The Great Gatsby), people being outraged by it for half a page, and by the time that's over, it's either late Wed

TERF - Joshua Kaplan-penned play about JK Rowling to premiere at Edinburgh Fringe

I read through that multiple times, and still have no idea what he's talking about. It reminded me of a stream of consciousness activity I did in acting class in college.

Can I just take a minute to applaud Broadway Flash for fully embracing her (at least acc. to profile) role as the undisputed villain/antagonist of these boards? Call her annoying if you want, but she's fully leaned into that role, and every time people give her attention, she's gonna lean into it that much more. Now I personally would be fine with that, because I honestly think the banter is hilarious. But if you're less fine with it, just know that every time you respond to

If Water for Elephants doesn't pick it up, they might not even bother replacing Grant.

Mary Jane extends for second time on Broadway
 Jun 27 2024, 04:46:22 PM

Happy she's gonna be in the show tonight, but even happier that she's feeling better!

I ended up getting a ticket for The Notebook, which isn't a Mary show, but a MaryANN (Plunkett) show.

Mary Jane extends for second time on Broadway

Anybody have any intel, by chance, on whether or not Rachel will be back in the show tonight? Trying to decide between the two Mary shows (this and Oh, Mary!) for what to see tonight.

Anyone know if Paulson was back tonight? I'm seeing the show tomorrow, so I'm trying to be prepared lol. Excited regardless!

Slave Play. Not a movie. A play.
 Jun 22 2024, 06:57:49 PM

I might like Slave Play more if Jeremy O. Harris didn't labor under the delusion that he's God's gift to the entire theatrical realm, and we all have a responsibility to bow down to his profound wisdom that far supersedes that of us commoners.

If not for that, I'd probably like it more.

He's probably at another darkness retreat.

Songs from shows that might work in church

Shoutout to the people who actually gave serious answers to what I read as a very earnest question, instead of just being a smarta**. This sounds like a wonderful church! (Christian theatre artist here)

I would also include "You Will Be Found" from Dear Evan Hansen.

People who are suggesting any kind of acting roles for Kelly Clarkson clearly never saw From Justin to Kelly.

EDIT: And yes, I know that Justin Guarini has gone on to be a Broadway veteran, but the point still piggybacks on the one from a couple posts ago, that Kelly does not enjoy acting. And I don't think it's a stretch to surmise that that movie is likely a reason why.

I'm a millennial, and I hadn't thought of that movie in at least two decades.

Second time in the $1M club for The Outsiders.

And Home may be where the heart is, but it damn sure isn't where the grosses are. Yikes.

This, from someone who keeps track of who posts what, when. I never even look at anyone’s username let alone try to remember them. But sounds like a great life you’ve got if you’re shaking your fist at the sky and cursing BorisTomashevsky lol.

Canceled Productions That Eventually Happened?

Plaza Suite was never "cancelled" though. They always intended to come back after the shutdown, and were consistently speculated to be one of the bigger money-makers whenever Broadway returned.

I would, however, personally include Hangmen&

Seeing a show when you're not feeling great
 Apr 21 2024, 05:25:47 PM

Just popping in to second the "could be allergies" posts. I'm congested as hell right now, but I feel great otherwise. I just have a pollen allergy, and live in a city with very high pollen levels.

I'll be going to NYC next week to see shows, and it's very likely that I will still be congested at least for the first show or two. I don't think my pollen allergy should warrant people telling me to not go to the theatre.

So yeah, don't tel
