Plays with orchestras?  Jan 2 2011, 07:05:59 PM
Every Good Boy Deserves Favor, by Tom Stoppard and Andre Previn, is not a musical but calls for 7 actors and a full onstage orchestra.

Millions and millions, or not, talent is talent, and a good show is a good show! Congrats for the nominations.

I am so happy for ZERO HOUR, for Steve and for the marvelous Jim Brochu.

re: 'Oliver!' movie question...  Feb 24 2008, 12:38:52 AM
According to The Worldwide Guide to Movie Locations (http://www.movielocations.com/movies/o/oliver.html),

"The ‘London’ streets – yes, even the steam railway – were built on soundstages at Shepperton Studios, Shepperton in Middlesex. Despite what you may read, the crescent used for ‘Who Will Buy?’ can't be found in London, nor is it the Royal Crescent, Bath. It was built from scratch, from designs by by Production Designer John Box, on the Shepperton backlot."

Besides the Royal Crescent in Bath, Bloomsbury in London looks somewhat like the set location.

I've used it several times for events in San Francisco and Los Angeles and have never had any problems.
The Big Voice: God or Merman? Final San Francisco weekend.  Aug 24 2007, 01:22:43 PM
The Big Voice: God or Merman? is playing it's last weekend, with the final performance this Sunday August 26th.

It's been a treat having Jim Brochu and Steve Schalchlin (the origianl off-Broadway cast and writers/composers of the show) in San Francisco, and I wish they could extend the show further...but I guess they're moving it to another city.

It's a wonderful little show with HUGE heart, and lots of laughs.
There's also something very special about having Jim and Steve up there telling their own story. There's an honesty in the words and especially in Steve's singing that can't help but move you.

If you're in the bay area and haven't seen it, you might want to check out one of these last performances. It really is a gem.

It's playing at The New Conservatory Theatre:

re: Steve Schalchlin and Jim Brochu Leaving THE BIG VOICE on 3/11  Feb 27 2007, 05:30:17 PM
I'm feeling very lucky to have gotten back to NYC to see the show last month. Steve and Jim will be missed. Do try to see the show before they leave. HOWEVER...I do feel the show will stand on it's own. There's just too much in the story itself that people can personally relate to and/or be touched by.

2 Pianos,4 Hands is another show in the same style...two peoples story, told by the two people who lived it. I saw it after the two writers had left the show...and I'm also one who usu

re: Where can I find the CD 'Mommy Get Me A Drink of Water' by Danny Kaye?  Oct 7 2006, 02:19:03 AM
The title of the song is actually 'Mommy, Gimme a Drinka Water'
You can find it on cd, recorded by other people than Danny Kaye, at places like Amazon.com.
It looks like the only Danny Kaye recording out there is on vinyl.
This link may help you with a Danny Kaye recording:

BillFinn-
I saw the show last night and these were the things that I believe make Elena stand out as Clara, and what Fabrizio notices.
The wig does have quite a bit of blonde highlight which really shimmer, especially when you see her from the back. It's lighter in contrast to David's/Fabrizio's hair and the hair/wigs of the rest of the family.
Elena's skin tone is not nearly as dark as David's and his lines about her skin being white as milk ring true as Fabrizio struggles with t

Here's a little info about the book. To me it sounds like a great idea for a musical.

About The Man in the Ceiling

He's bad at sports and not much better at school, but Jimmy sure can draw terrific cartoons. And his dream, like that of his Uncle Lester, who writes flop Broadway musicals'is to be recognized for what he loves doing most.
