We would go regularly and it's definitely our favourite city to visit. Hard to explain but you feel like your on a set of a film when your inside Manhattan. World class museums, a world renowned food scene, lots of art, music, theater, all right there. What I would avoid is the super touristy stuff, like visiting statue of liberty or something.
