Jesse Green‘s review was, if anything, kind. I thought the choreography was not great, and this was the first “Conga” I’ve ever seen that was not a showstopper. Billy Porter’s THE LIFE still holds the record as Encores’ worst production, but I thought this WONDERFUL TOWN was among the bottom five. And I’ve seen every Encores show. 

Just back from the matinee, and still reeling at how fabulous it is. It’s still Cats, but the creative team has completely transformed the show for the better. The audience went wild.

There must be a dress rehearsal today. Maybe we’ll get an advance report.

I will be incredibly frustrated/angry if this is the condensed Ragtime that was presented at Tanglewood last summer with an expanded orchestra but had some songs omitted and minimal dialogue…apparently done with the approval of the original creative team.
