re: would BELOVED work as a musical?

Nov 18, 2005 — 10:15:29 AM

Beloved would be a great musical. it has characters and situations that easily lend themselves to musicalization. Ms. Morrison has a way of blending prose with poetry making it considerably easier for the book to flow into song and vice versa. Also Beloved is about FREED slaves and the price of freedom. And though its characters are largely African-American, the themes of freedom and liberty are universal.

I think Kelly Clarkson could do any number of things. She would have been great in " Brooklyn".

re: A question about 'Angels in America'

Joe is still stuck. Yes he is out but there is still shame. I think all the other charecters including Hannah and Belize have some sort of moment of clarity. of realization. Joe has his doubts and his shame and most importantly his confusion.

" Teaching third Grade Shaping the lives of a New Generation No Longer Afriad to get on with my life and Off Medication" it's the campiest musical ever written. full of refrences to old movies and some musicals. very good lyrics and a two piano score.

August Wilson is one of the Greatest Playwrights in American History. No other American playwright has ever even attempted, let alone Suceeded with anything as ambitious or theatrical as his ten play cycle. To suggest anything other that that shows extreme ingnorance on your part. Let's celebrate the life and work of one of this countries greatest treasures. To August!

re: ACTOR in DR.SEX puts his foot in his mouth...

Here is the point: The attitudes he displayed in the interview are exactly the kinds of attitudes Dr. Alfred Kinsey was opposed to- the way I see it is as an actor it can be very dangerous to stand in “Moral Judgment" of the character you are playing. Your job is to understand where the character is coming from, so you can make his intentions understood to the audience. Furthermore don’t tell me not to be offended when someone makes comments like that. He is an adult. He made the comments. He...

re: Reba's 'SOUTH Almost PATHETIC'

You absolutly can have color blind casting in any show. Sorry Kids but White does not equal French and futhermore BSM is not Don Cheadle, he is an extremly light skinned man of almost undetermined race. I guess he could be " made " to look more French but what is the point in a staged concert. Audra as Clara was wonderful. Performances have the power of trancending race, I would love to see an all Chinese Production of A Rasin in the Sun,it's about dreams being deferred and that is a HUMAN is...

re: Spunky Bruised(er)

Apr 22, 2005 — 11:34:53 AM

Oh. Don't get me wrong, I love Gwen Verdon as much as the next man but she was known for her spunky charisma and out of this world dancing and comedic abilities but she will never be hailed as one of the greatest voices of all time. Like wise Christina's vocal performance this morning, while not Fantastic, certainly was more than passable for this role. the question should be " Could she act and Dance it?" and the answer is a resounding " YES"

re: Charity on Today

She did a wonderful job! she sang just as well as Gwen Verdon (yes, I said it!) and she danced beautifully.
