Hello,

I have two friends coming for the first time to NYC and they want to see Aladdin or The lion King. We are on a budget... So what are the cheapest price we should expect to pay for a full view ? Should we go to the theater box office or try the TKTS  ?

Mary Poppins audition
 Nov 12 2012, 06:54:03 PM
Hello,

I'm auditioning for the french production of Mary Poppins and I need to sing 2 songs in french.

I'm a 29 years old soprano. I think the role of Winifred could suit me well.

Do you have any recommendation on how to prepare this audition and the songs I should sing ?

Thanks a lot guys !

Givesmevoice. Thanks for the answer? I will try to find more infos on subsidies from the gov to the non for profit .

Playbilly. Sorry but I don't understand your message ? I'm asking a question not making a statement.

ps: just to precise I'm writing a research paper on the french business compare to the one in the US. Trying to see if Paris could one day be quite as big as Broadway.

Thanks It does help a lot ! and no, calling french musicals an aberration does not touch my personal feeling, as I for the most part agree with that ! So I just wanted to know in which context Uncle Mack said it !

In France, we tend to categorize everything and lots of people ( not everyone, thank you) think that Culture and Entertainment are two separate things. This is one of the reason it is hard for musicals to enter the french market !

Hello,

I read on a french newspaper than talking about french musicals, Cameron Mackintosh said that it was an aberration. But I can't find where he said that, and what he meant by aberration ( crappy, impossibility to put on a show due to the french market ...) ?

Do you know ?

Oui, mais oui pour quoi ? !!

Yes, but yes for what ?!!

Do you get tax exempt ? You just love gambling ? The French don't have the guts to put the money ?

as simple as that ?!

So just to make sure I understand. When a producer put 60 millions on a show ( ex: Spider Man). Those 60 millions come uniquely from private investors ? And when we say private investors, we mean rich people willing to bet on one show ? Why would they do that, do they get tax exempt ...?or they just love gambling ?

As I'm trying to understand the difference between the market in France and the one in the US, let's go a little bit farther and let's sa

Hello,

Here's my question.

I would like to know, if the city of NY, helps by anyway producers, actors on broadway?

We know that thanks to Broadway Theater, NYC is getting a lot of money ( taxes...), so in order to keep earning that money, do they help producers to put on musicals ?

Thank you for your answer.

Knowing people trying to produce musicals in France, I understand How difficult it is to actually be able to put on a musical, mostly due to the labor cost, the taxes the rent and money asked by the theater etc ( also musical theater is not really our "culture"!!).

And that's why I wonder how can producers have the money to produce such shows ? Where does the money come from ? Does it mostly come from private investors? What about the theaters where

yES, I understood that 1,754 is the minimum salary for a broadway performer.

So, you say that performers have benefits while they are employed, but what about when they are not ? Do they still make money ? or do they just have to find a second job to make a living ( waiters in NYC...)

You talked about insurances, so let's say a performer earns $2000 per week, how much will the employer pay ( what the contributions ( insurances) ?) $2,500 in total ? more, less ...

Let me tell you why I'm asking this so it will be easier for you to understand and to answer!

I'm writing a paper on the french musical business compare to the one in the USA. I'm trying to see if one day Paris could be as big as Broadway !

In France the employer has to pay contributions. Because we have what we called "l'intermittence "which means that a performer with enough working hours will make money every month even though he is not working. And that, thanks to the

Thanks for the reply.

But just to make sure I understood your answer, $1,754 per week is what the performer will make at the end of his week performing in a musical ?

But I supposed the employer will have to pay much more per week.

What is the law, what the government say about wage/labor cost for theater workers ?

Hi,

I have a question for you all,

it concerns the labor cost for a broadway musical.

In fact, I wonder how much it costs for an employer to hire a principal role for a broadway musical ?

I don't know if it is easy to understand what I mean by labor cost, so let's give an example.

I'm a producer, let's say I work for Newsies. How much does it cost to hire a principal role performer ?

I'm not asking how much can the performer earn ? But How
