A Raisin in the Sun Previews

Mar 18, 2014 — 4:49:53 AM

Lol... yes the audience was involved (not really in a bad way), but the acting leaned in that direction too. Its hard to explain. Played to stereotype a little? As opposed to a more stolid performance relying on the dialogue to push the points? Hard to put my finger on. Just my impressions.

Betty Buckley as Norma Desmond

Mar 18, 2014 — 4:44:57 AM

I never understood that. I'm probably in the minority, but I honestly feel Sunset Blvd may well have been ALW's finest work. The set was incredible as well. And meeting George Hearn at the stage door was a dream come true...

Will The NY Philharmonic SWEENEY TODD be televised?

Mar 17, 2014 — 4:37:54 AM

They filmed the Saturday night performance which I attended. But, I also heard that they filmed Thursday night and filmed Audra's hosting spots at that time. Theoretically they have the footage to use Audra's Beggar Woman for the telecast.

A Raisin in the Sun Previews

I saw the second preview. Overall I got the feeling that it could be really good before its done, if they work at it. There were some obvious tiny line flubs, moments of reaching for the lines, and spots that just didn't gel, but I guess that's to be expected two public shows in. I'd agree that Anika and Sophie were fantastic and LaTonya shines as well. I wasn't 100% happy with Jason Dirden as George... partly a directorial thing. Sean Patrick Thomas was pretty good as Joseph... and was pop

Who's playing the Begger Woman NY Phil's Sweeney Todd with Emma Thompson?

Mar 5, 2014 — 6:11:08 PM

I have a feeling they went into this knowing they were filming (hence the apprenticeship posting I linked earlier), but possibly didn't know how it would be released. My question is... Does a Live at Lincoln Center broadcast preclude the option for a one night in theaters release or an eventual bluray release? I can't think of any other Live at Lincoln Center broadcasts that have been released... Passion, Carousel, South Pacific, Piazza, etc... ;(

I'm not saying its Audra. But they could certainly film the interviews and "hosting" material in between performances on Saturday. And yes, its not being aired live. I'm just saying its possible. It could be anybody really. Betty Buckley was apparently at the Mary Chapin Carpenter thing the other night...

People seem to have missed a few things. I registered to throw this out there...

This is being filmed on Saturday. Presumably both performances...

Audra is hosting the broadcast, so presumably she'll be there Saturday doing interviews between performances.

Not saying its Audra.... but....

Also... the "Stage Extensions" could be camera locations.
