I gave the recording a quick listen at the gym today and was very impressed. Patrick Wilson sounds great, the orchestra is wonderfully lush, and Audra McDonald and Nathan Gunn do beautiful things with music. The comments about the didactic side of the show are probably right, but this recording makes a strong case for what merits there are.
