He was hired for reading of both, BUT at the last "Catch me...." reading Norbert Leo Butz played his role.

I would love to see Nathan as Gomez! What fun!

He'd be great in either and yes Norbert was playing his role at the last reading/workshop, but nothing is set in stone yet... But I think it's more likely we'll be seeing him in THE ADDAMS FAMILY... He and Bebe Neuwirth will be amazing as Gomez and Morticia re: Next Nathan Lane Show?

With those two, I'd be seeing this as much as Spamalot!

I will most certainly make it my mission to get there as many times as I can myself, Magdalene re: Next Nathan Lane Show? Let's keep our fingers crossed it all works out and actually happens.

Personally, although I like Nathan Lane as a performer, I think he would be terrible as Gomez. Too frenetic and not dark enough. What about Raul Esparza for Gomez? Will Chase would be great too judging by his performance in Kiss of the Spider Woman at Signature in DC. Just a thought

I think Nathan could pull off Gomez very well. Many of you might equate the dark Gomez with Raul Julia's performance in the movie, but many of us older fans remember John Astin's zanier portrayl of Gomez, which I thought was so much more charming and funny than Raul Julia......

Ehh. I have a hard time buying Nathan Lane in a role other than "Nathan Lane as... A ROLE!" His voice is so recognizable that it either takes me out of whatever atmosphere the show is trying to give, or it reminds me of other Lane shows from the past. I'm sure he'll be fine as Gomez, but unfortunately, all I'll be thinking is "Nathan Lane as... Gomez!" Not quite my ideal casting for ADDAMS.

This production excites the hell out of me. If it can keep half the people who were at the reading it'll be great. I really do feel, though, that it will benefit so much from these two leads. While I can definitely picture Lane as a hilarious, charismatic Gomez, it's the prospect of Neuwirth as Morticia that has me very hopeful.

I also think that Esparza would be great as Gomez. The first time I saw him I thought that he looked quite a bit like John Astin. I think Lane would be a great Fester, given his voice.

Agreed. Lane's more a Fester than a Gomez.

It's a damn fine day to tell the truth!

And yet the role was written with Lane in mind, according to Marshall Brickman. Kevin Chamberlin is playing Fester, having been quite wonderful in the last reading. Lane was also the hoped-for choice of the Addams estate people.

Kevin Chamberlain is a great choice for Fester. Lane will do his usual magnificent job as Gomez!!!

This is how Gomez, Morticia and Pugsly were first evisioned when they first appeared in The New Yorker magazine.

Sure looks like a perfect visual fit for Bebe and Nathan. re: Next Nathan Lane Show?

Exactly! Lane is perfect, based on the original New Yorker drawings, and Charles Addams' description of the character for the television version.
