tick, tick...RENT!

All though I love both RENT and tick, tick...BOOM!, I have to say, it's a little annoying how similar the two shows are. Granted they don't have the same storyline...still.
Listen to "Rent" and "No More" right after each other...

Well, first of all, they're shows, not shoes. re: tick, tick...RENT!

And yes, there are a lot of songs in TTB that can match up to songs in RENT, but I feel like each has definite strengths and weaknesses. Also, I guess I'd expect similarities; they were written by the same person.

re: tick, tick...RENT!

Well, they're written by the same composer. A lot of Sondheim's stuff sounds the same, and we don't even need to get into Andrew Lloyd Webber or Frank Wildhorn...

re: tick, tick...RENT!

Granted they conatin similiar themes and considering ttB is Larson's semi-autobiography and he did put his personal life into his most famous opus, Rent

re: tick, tick...RENT!

obv. its by the same person who is great and his first show tick tick boom probably gave him a spark to do that same thing but expand it. They both are alike in ways but also different.

same composer, they're different enough and stand on their own.

re: tick, tick...RENT!

Yeah they both have there similar points but since it was written by the same person, that comes to be expected. But I still think that they both have enough different points as well to easily stand on their own.

re: tick, tick...RENT!

tick tick BOOM was based on a one-man show that Jonathan Larson did while he was working on Rent, and wasn't necessarily meant to have made into a professional show. If he hadn't passed away, the show probably never would have seen the light of day, because it was so similar to Rent. But it was done more as a tribute to him, as opposed to an independent show trying to achieve commerical success.

Especially since neither of them write their own lyrics, like Larson did. Really, the only song that shocks me with its similarity, like you said, is No More and Rent. That being said, they have a similar "sound," but that's just his style.

Am I the only one who REALLY wants to see a production of Superbia?

Lael- I still want to see a production of t...t...b (that isn't on a less-than-professional video) re: tick, tick...RENT!
