I think Jarrod Emick has one of the most enjoyable voices on Broadway - and I'm excited to see him in this new show, though I'm not someone who knows much about Johnny Cash.

Has anyone seen this show out of town? Do you think Jarrod Emick's part could earn him a Tony nomination? I've never seen him perform live, but he is the reason I listen to the Damn Yankees recording and he is awesome in Rocky Horror. What do you think?

I like Jarrod, but the premise of a Johnny Cash musical will probably make me stay away from Ring of Fire.

I love Jarrod therefore I will definitely see this show. But I cannot wait for Waiting for the Moon to have its next production (2006/2007 season) since he is still connected to that show and perfect as F.Scott Fitzgerald!

Actually guys, the musical is not even about Johnny Cash. It just uses his music. The play is about the "american dream". But as the director says, there is no actual story. It is just a string of scenes using Cashes songs as a basis. I don't know about you guys, but I don't think that sounds that good.

Personally, I think it sounds rather boring. But for me, I don't really like "revues." Like, I can't really stand to listen to Songs for a new World because there is no story, just a bunch of songs. Can't say I'd have any interest in seeing this show. Though Waiting for the Moon sounds awesome.

I'm going to see it for Jarrod Emick. But only if they have Student Rush. And I'm sure they will.

I've learned to take chances on musicals lately because I've gone to see shows that I was convinced I would hate and I ended up loving them. And for student rush at 26.25, it's not a huge deal if I don't like it.

I saw the show. Read the other thread about Johnny Cash musical thats going for talk about the show. However, even though Jarrod Emick is EXCELLENT in the show, I dont think it's a role no matter who does it that would be considered for a TONY. Does that make sense?

For as long as I read these boards, I will never understand the need some people have to post negative comments about a show, (e.g., "I am DREADING the arrival of this show") without ever seeing it!!!

I did see this show in Buffalo, and not only was I surprised by how much I enjoyed it, I was actually quite blown away by how amazing a production it is. The problem, I think, with all this advance speculation about what this show is (or is not), is that it's truly a show beyond description....I think you have to experience it first hand to understand how powerful and moving it is. Let me be very clear with all you naysayers out there....I do not care for "revues," nor have I been a fan of the jukebox musical, for the most part. For that matter, I don't consider myself a Johnny Cash fan. And that's precisely why I went to this show expecting to be "underwhelmed." I went to see it because of Jarrod....that man is great in everything he does, and this show is certainly no exception. But I walked away from the theater that evening completely overwhelmed by the emotional roller coaster I had just experienced. I literally couldn't stop thinking about it, or talking about it. Someone suggested that this show "sounds boring"....oh my God, that couldn't be further from the truth!!! It's very fast-paced, as the show glides seamlessly from one song/scene to the next. The mood goes from joyous, to melancholy, to romantic, to reflective, to sexy, to hysterically funny, etc...the performers actually assume different roles or characters as the scenes change, which is pretty amazing in and of itself to watch. Just compelling performances from every one of these actors, too. It's impossible for me to imagine someone seeing this show and NOT being moved by what they see and hear. I literally laughed so hard my sides ached, got teary-eyed in other scenes, and when Cass Morgan was singing "Waiting on the Far Side Banks of Jordan" near the end of the show, I lost it....her performance was just so moving and powerful, it was all I could do to keep my sobs from being audible! I NEVER expected to be so completely transported and moved by this show, only knowing beforehand that it was a revue-type show, using Johnny Cash songs.

There's SO much more I could say, but hopefully I've made my point....don't be turned off by the fact that this is a "revue," or a "jukebox musical," or because it's Johnny Cash music, or because of any of the other reasons you keep reading people are choosing to avoid seeing this musical. This is a show like no other. I'm actually making a special trip to NYC (from Michigan) just so I can take my 5 year old boy to see it! This is an emotionally-charged production that won't disappoint anyone who has a heart!

Incidentally, I also saw Waiting for the Moon, and I'm now anxiously awaiting its arrival on Broadway, too. The show itself needed a bit of tweaking, but I thought Jarrod was brilliant as Scott....what a contrast to see him two months later, playing a harmonica, strumming a guitar, and kicking up his heels in his cowboy boots!

I'm glad you liked it Bad Seed. I agree with you. I hate it when people 'dread' a shows revival or develop a hatred for it without even knowing what it's all about.

Someone explained the outline of the show, and munkustrap stated his opinion on it. Based on that little synopsis, I too think this show sounds dreadfully boring. I had no desire to see a Johnny Cash musical anyway, but this silly "American dream" idea sounds horrible.

So, I won't go see it because it sounds like something I wouldn't like. Nothing wrong with that. Going to the theater is expensive, and we make these judgements all the time.

I have tickets for Saturday February 11th and while I am excited to see Jarrod Emmick on stage again, I am more excited to talk to Jeb Brown at the stage door about Bring Back Birdie.

There's supposed to be another production of Waiting for the Moon in the works??

It was a 4-hour trip to see the premiere, and it was absolutely worth it.

I just wish they'd keep Lauren Kennedy, too...

I wasn't sure what to think of this show, but after seeing the rehearsal footage, knowing some of Cash's legacy, seeing the talent involved and Maltby's track record with this kind of thing- I'm sure its going to be a really special event. I went to Smokey Joe's back in the day - totally expecting to not like it. I had a blast and so did the audience. A GOOD revue is just fine with me.
Love Jarrod Emick. Saw him in Miss Saigon, DY, Rocky Horror, and Oz. He is always consistantly awesome and gorgeous. Though since Oz he has been looking a little gaunt and not quite as beefy as he earlier days. I'm sure I'll buy the CDs and see it if it tours.
