The Official iThread - A place to discuss all things iPod and iTunes

Edit: I altered the title to make this thread "all things iPod/iTunes" where we can all share our iPod ups and downs and post our questions and concerns.

Okay, I received my pretty little U2 iPod in the mail today and I'm in the process of setting everything up and I have a question about the album covers on the CD.

If I want to utilize the album cover on the iPod is there a way I can assign it to show up on every track on an album? As of right now it seems like I have to add the cover art track by track and that seems less than efficient.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Hooray, Patty! You got the U2 iPod! I got my very first iPod yesterday as well (a pink 4gb Mini) and I was going to start a similar thread but you beat me to it!

I haven't a clue how to help you though. The Minis have substantially less features than the full iPod. (How's your warranty?)

re: My very first iPod help thread.

I have the regular manufacturer warranty. I decided not to do anything fancy.

Since iTunes asked me to name my iPod - I decided to name him Catorce Dos.

(I previously bought a U2 iPod and took it back because I felt it was too much $$$ at the time - hence the dos.)

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Love it! Is there any way to program the iPod so it flashes its name when it turns on? I named mine MirandiPod (after my favorite character on Sex and the City). re: My very first iPod help thread.

Was this one bought off of eBay?

The reason I asked about the warranty is because since the U2 and mini iPods are discontinued, an extended warranty might be better - I bought mine from Future Shop (owned by the same folks as Best Buy) and if Apple can't fix the product or replace the broken parts (which may be likely in this case), they either credit you the amount you paid to go towards a different iPod, or will give you the present equivalent (like a 4gb Nano) in exchange.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

I actually bought mine from BestBuy.com.

I thought about the extended warranty, but I have a general rule that I don't buy those things for any purchase under $500.

It's less likely that Best Buy would have a replacement U2 iPod than Apple anyway.

I know that iPods are a tad glitchy, but I'll take my chances and hope I don't get screwed.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

makes sense since the nano has completely different technology than the old ones that they would use that techonology on a larger model, thats why i'm afraid to buy an i-pod. i fear shortly after i give in and new and better one will come out.

is there a technical term for this??

re: My very first iPod help thread.

They better not stop making normal ipods. That video thing is big and clunky. I hate it.

Now, what I do want is an ipod with an FM radio...

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Yeah, I worried a bit about something newer and better coming out - but such is life. At least I got the pretty little black and red iPod.

Does anyone have any help on my original question:
If I want to utilize the album cover feature on the iPod is there a way I can assign it to show up on every track on an album? As of right now it seems like I have to add the cover art track by track and that seems less than efficient.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Patronus, If you drag and drop and select everything and then got to get album info you can add the same pic from your file to all the music.
I have a problem with my ipod. I just got it and it worked fine for the first two uploads ,but then the computer just stopped recognizing it. The ipod will start to charge when connected to the computer if you play with it ,but the computer isn't showing any sign of knowing the ipod is there, it's not showing up on itunes.

I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

my neighbor's mini ipod broke and they replaced it with another mini... they don't make/sell them anymore but they do have them left over for just that perpous. he was a little disapointed because he figured he'd be getting a nano.
my 30gig is acting up today.
bad collins. very bad collins.

i have a nano and a docking base to sell if anyone wants to buy it.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

This may not be your problem soapguy, but sometimes it won't read it unless you open I-tunes after the I-pod is plugged in.
I am talking plug it in, turn off I-tunes, restart the computer, then open I-tunes again. I think this is a computer issue for me though, not an I-pod issue.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Wow, this thread was brought back from the dead! Splendid.

I can add at this point that I absolutely love my iPod, though I wish I had waited and gotten the 60GB Video iPod.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Sorry to interrupt with a mini-rant, but my iPod mini died today. It won't come on, whether it's in the charger or hooked up to my computer. It's so frustrating and my Best Buy warranty ran out last month. I'm not looking for advice (unless you have some re: My very first iPod help thread. ). It was just the icing on a bad day. And I have no idea what to do, since I can't go buy a new one - lack of funds. Ah, well...

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Mini iPods can go to hell. I bought one in April. By mid-August, it would barely hold a charge. I sent it in to Apple and they replaced it. Unfortunately, the one they sent me (I'm guessing it was refurbished) held even less of a charge than my original iPod! I forgot about it for a while, but when I went to request another replacement, Apple said that I'd have to pay $40 for "shipping and handling." Ugh.

All I know is that the internal battery is a curse on minis.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Help me! I'm going crazy over this...

Most times I try to listenin to my ipod when I'm out, it shows that it has a full battery, and then a message comes on saying that "no battery power remains" and turns itself off. Why does this happen and how can I stop it? Anyone know??

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Moonlite, I'd send that in to be replaced. That's very weird.

My iPod's LCD screen just cracked the other day. I'm not looking forward to buying a new one - it's a brand new 60 gig video. But Apple, being the bitches they are, won't cover cracks or breaks, even though I didn't drop the thing. It was in my bag, and when I took it out, it was broken.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Sorry if this is a stupid suggestion, but it sounds like it's the battery that needs to be replaced. I don't know if that's actually possible though.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Help!

My video iPod just stopped working!

It will not turn off or anything, it just has the screen with the song it was playing and refuses to do anything.
Plugging it into the computer did not help.

Any suggestions on what I should do would be appreciated.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

SP, I believe pressing Menu and Play at the same time resets the unit. Have you tried that yet? Also, try connecting it to your computer - sometimes that unfreezes it.

Good luck!

re: My very first iPod help thread.

SMartpenguin, if you have a wall charger (you can't do this with the computer charger), you can do a full, hard reboot. It'll wipe your Ipod out completely, though, which does suck. but it should get it working again.

re: My very first iPod help thread.

*Pretend I'm SP*

Hooking it up to the computer has not helped, nor has pressing menu and play. I'm baffled and very worried!

BwaySinger, no we don't have a wall charger. At the moment wiping the memory doesn't seem too bad if it would just work!

Oy. It's time like this I wish I knew Macs better.
Have you tried one of the umpteen million Ipod online forums? SURELY someone else has encountered this problem...isn't there also a little bitty reset hole in ipods, one for which you need like a safety pin to get in there?

re: My very first iPod help thread.

Actually I believe it's press and hold Menu and enter until the apple icon appears..
