So the pirates, skeletons, elaborate Winston costumes, cat named Yoda, monsters on the sleeves, sand up my butt, rumor-tumor and cardboard lemon were all still in the show (thank god).
Some noticeable differences:
1) At the first preview last Friday, when everyone was sitting in the theater waiting for the show to begin, there was a brown brick wall background and no curtain. My friends and I did comment on how ugly it was. To my surprise, last night, there was a projected blue sky in front of the ugly brick background. I don't know why it was there, but it was.
2) As you all know, JT doesn't fly up to the heavens from his hospital bed anymore. Instead of the bed being DSL, it is placed DSR and instead of levitating out of bed, he gets up and walks DSL while singing the musical number. Definitely not as hilarious, but after Friday night's audience reaction, I guess the change needed to be made.
3) I seem to remember that at the wedding on Friday night, Jenny was holding a bouquet of lemons and there were also lemons in her hair. Last night, instead of lemons, they were bright yellow flowers. I think Joe Brooks should put the lemons back in.
4) New Ending! For the first preview, the show ended with Vera singing a reprise of "Life Turns On A Dime" and then giving a little speech to the audience telling us to have a wonderful life or some crap like that. Last night, the show ended with Winston! He flew down from heaven and said something to the audience along the lines of "we hope you all enjoyed the show and now i'm off to heaven." ::makes gestures to fly back to heaven, he is not lifted up, audience laughs, he makes gesture again to fly up to heaven, nothing happens:: "what do you expect, it's previews dahling!" ::audience is dying with laughter:: "maybe you can help me. do you believe in fairies? clap your hands and help me fly away!" ::audience applauds like crazy and Winston flies back to heaven:: The End.
Overall, it was a much better ending than the one with Vera. I don't know how they are going to work around the "It's previews dahling" after it opens, but I guess we'll have to go back and find out. (if it opens at all)
I am seeing the show again next Wednesday and will report on any more changes.
