I couldnt agree more. Listening to Ragtime, I am blown away, but am reminded the show was not as powerful as the score seems to promise. That is why Lion King deserved it's best musical win that year, it was simply done much better, imo...however, the score didnt compare to Ragtime, so it won that award.

Once on this Island, however, was a beautifully crafted show from start to finish and was the best musical that year for me...by far.
