Just rewatched Sally Field's shredding of Santino Fontana's name during the Lead Actor in a Musical category on the Tony Awards. Always bugs me when an award presenter doesn't take the time to learn the whopping FOUR NAMES they are about to announce to millions of people. Shame, Sally, shame.
(Not to mention she was clearly only there to present Tom Hanks with his expected Tony. The obvious disappointment in her voice when she reads "Tracy Letts" is hilarious.)
What's interesting is that Sally Field was one of the few celebs who showed up at the rehearsal that morning! I can't remember if she botched his name then too, but... yeah. I love me some Sally, but if you only have FOUR NAMES to say, and you're going to say them on national TV, you really ought to practice them. Not to mention that Santino Fontana's name is perfectly phonetic. He's not Samir Nagheenanajar.
I remember Sally Field's stumbling over Fontana's first name at rehearsal, but she certainly didn't say "Santana" then. At least she showed up; many others didn't.
