Knowing that Lin loves musical theatre I couldn't help but realize while watching Hamilton certain resemblances with other musicals from the past. Some I could easily recognize and others I know were similar but could not put my finger on it.
For example the drinking song The story of tonight is a reminder of drink with me from les miserables(obvious I know).
One part of Take a break at the beginning when young Philip is on piano and they are counting in French and English when mom and son say the number 9 in unison I swear it brings back a scene from the musical rent but I just can't put my finger on which song segment it resembles.. Can anyone help?
The room where it happens to me seems Chicago inspired although I may be wrong....
wondering if there are any other Rent inspired segments as well.
would love to hear from other Hamilton fans if they recognize any parts of the show that seem to either be a tribute or are styled after other show songs or themes from Broadway shows?

'Sit down John' reference to 1776.
'You've got to be carefully taught' reference to South Pacific.
'Model of a modern major general' reference to Pirates of Penzance.
'Nobody needs to know' reference to The Last Five Years.
The melody in Your Obedient Servant when Burr sings 'I look back on where I've failed' is the same as 'I am reaching but I fall' from Les Mis.
There are others I think but those are from the top of my head.

I just thought of another...the end of one of King George's song you'll be back when he says you're on your own sounds just like on my own from Les Miz.....

I've always thought that the way they introduce the location when they say "New York City" in the beginning was intentionally inflected to sound like the way that it is said in Rent.
