Got a dumb question (please help!)....

I'm sort of new to the whole musical theater thing. This is my first show when I'm not working backstage and it's the Addams family. I got the part of "chorus" but there are also ancestors (not me). Will somebody tell me the difference between a chorus member and the ancestors and what the chorus members do?
