HAIRSPRAY ORIGINAL LONDON CAST RECORDING

I know it's a bit early but any chance they are going to record the London cast of Hairspray they would be stupid not to everyone sounds great on stage. As Much as I enjoy the Broadway cast recording I cannot stand Harvey's vocals and need a recording with Michael Ball. Any news on this at all would be appreciated. Leanne Jones I know you are a bit busy at the mo but if you do read this I want you to know that you make a wonderful Tracy well done will be back at the Shaftesbury theatre very soon.

It would have been useful to have a question mark in the title of your thread... I got really excited for a moment then!

Why, hello Margaret! Yes darling, half past five. Well, everyone, simply le tout Park Avenue and la creme de Hyannis! Well, the press table's going to be awfully crowded... but if you don't mind sharing a folding chair with Harper's Bazaar... Sing? Me? Heavens no, it's Edie's day, not mine... Although people can be so insistent, and I hate to disappoint. Twist my arm, blackmail me, threaten my very life, and who knows? You might get a verse of something...

The talk is that they'll be in the studio before Christmas. Why do you say very very very unlikely when nothing has been been confirmed. The show only has a Broadway cast recording and to have Michael Ball in the London production is reason enough to record it. Its almost guaranteed that his management talked about his conract containing a possible recording. He's an international star and he hasnt done a show that hasnt produced a cast album! Even his one flop, five month run, 'Passion' has a recording. Im seeing the show again on Saturday night and will ask around the people i know who are working on the show.

re: HAIRSPRAY ORIGINAL LONDON CAST RECORDING

I have to agree thats it highly unlikely but you never know

Broadway transfers in to the West End don't really seem to get cast recordings anymore unless there is something very different about the show (and this is pretty much a carbon copy of the Broadway version).

Michael Ball also is not a huge selling name.

Even shows whos orchestrations etc are different and better in many respects like Footloose have not had a cast recording.

Passion opened at the Queens Theatre on March 26th, 1996 and closed September 28th, 1996.It had previews at The Theatre Royal in Plymouth (who co-produced it with Bill Kenwright). As you say it wasn't popular with the public but as far as I remember (I haven't listened to the interviews of the time, for a while) MB was only ever going to be involved for 6 months. They didn't re-cast and the show closed. The cd was made in June '97. It was recorded in concert form, most of the original cast re-created their roles for the recording.

Back to Hairspray

Michael Balls involvement in the cd would be a strong selling point on it's own and not just in this country. When the making of Chitty dvd was being made. The manufactures were persuaded to produce a run in NTSC format for overseas fans to buy, this was primarily due to MB's involvemnt in the production.

It will be very sad if we don't have a record of this Edna's wonderful dulcet tones. re: HAIRSPRAY ORIGINAL LONDON CAST RECORDING the whole cast indeed.

re: HAIRSPRAY ORIGINAL LONDON CAST RECORDING

Michael's the leading musical theatre star in the UK, with the singing prowess to boot. Hence, his being chosen by BBC for the first ever full concert by a musical theatre star ( and non-classical singer) in the celebrated festival for classical music, The Proms! What a show!! Andrew Lloyd Webber even paid him some fulsome compliments during the half-time interview.

I don't live in the UK ( but here in Asia) but I have come over to see him perform in all of his musicals ( except for Les Mis and Phantom) both in London and on Broadway, as well as in a few of his sell-out concerts ( on tour or special summer concerts). His albums sell very well in the UK, even when they are not musical theatre fare.

His newest one to be released in a few days' time is a tribute to Burt Bacharach - and I am looking forward to receiving my copy ( via Amazon) soon.

A recording of Hairspray would certainly be a welcome addition to his cast recordings of musical theatre shows, even if I hear he is not given too much opportunity to sing a lot in the show. Btw, he was chosen by Cameron Mackintosh to sing the role of Marius ( which he created) a total of three times, in three separate important recordings of Les Miserables - the original London cast recording, the Complete Symphonic Recording ( containing the full musical score and libretto) and the 10th Anniversary Concert video and cast recording!

I hope the producers and the creative team seriously consider releasing a cast recording of the show. People who will see it at the West End will be charmed more into buying an album with voices they have heard live onstage.

I meant hes not a big enough commercial star to warrant a 2nd cast recording of Hairspray since its not going to be any different because the show isn't.

re: HAIRSPRAY ORIGINAL LONDON CAST RECORDING

I do agree, but i think he has got a pretty big fanbase here and a recording with him would probably sell fairly well. I think it's not that likely though. But sad, i want one...re: HAIRSPRAY ORIGINAL LONDON CAST RECORDING

Oh so do I Jo...so do I re: HAIRSPRAY ORIGINAL LONDON CAST RECORDING It would also enable those who can't get to see the show to be able to hear it and support the show. Along with Michael's fanbase, there is the 'Any dream will do' Link (sorry couldn't resist)......Failing that we could always start a collection re: HAIRSPRAY ORIGINAL LONDON CAST RECORDING

Where did I put that bucket LOL!

Also in years to come when Leanne is celebrating 20 years in the biz.We don't want it to be a case of there being no record, of her wonderful debut peformance do we.

re: HAIRSPRAY ORIGINAL LONDON CAST RECORDING

With the film soundtrack having been released only this year, it seems rather unlikely.

Perhaps it could be sponsored by Ellnet?
