Sister Girl
By
Prudence Wright Holmes
Based on the true story of college-educated freed slave, Mary Bowser, who was a spy in Jefferson Daviss White House in the Civil War. Pretending to be a half-wit slave girl who couldnt read or write, Bowser stole secret documents which were smuggled to the North for four years. At the end of the war, when Davis was fleeing Richmond dressed as a woman, Bowser set fire to his White House, ran off into the night and was never heard of again. This play celebrates the historic actions of this unsung heroine.
