I have been a member of BroadwayWorld since its early infancy in the Spring of 2003. During that time I have communicated with many, many interesting, and some not so interesting, people. We've shared fun, fights, silliness, crudeness, rudeness, flirtatousness, and sadness. Still, whenever I have not been logged on to BWW.com, I was living an extremely fulfilled in life.
Despite so much going on in every area of my life, Rob Diamond, President of BWW.com, and the nicest guy one will ever meet, ask me if I would like to start creating weekly quizzes for the site. With relish I carved out time and began that challenge, and every week for over 52 weeks I created a different quiz each week. After the first year he and I agreed that they did not have to be every week, so we cut them back to one per month. At some point I was asked by Rob if I would begin to moderate the message boards as an unidentified moderator. I now had the power to wipe away offensive posts, and no one knew how or why, and I used that power, and laughed about it. Yes, I will admit it, I laughed about deleting posts.
I noticed that hardly anyone was using the chatroom, so last Spring, slightly before the invasion of the "Ers," I began opening the doors to the chat room by inviting members to drop in and "chat." Boy, did we have some crazy chats. One night I realized that the chat room was becoming comprised of 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 year-olds, and well, just not my thing, so I left the chatroom, happily knowing I creating something with a life of its own.
However, the news soon leaked out, somehow, that I was "The Moderator" with a heavy finger on the "Delete" button. Quicker than the blink of an eye, I was lauded by a few, damned by the many liberals and the broadwayworldkids, but I kept deleting away, always supported by my "boss." I received hate mail, even a 2am abusive phone call to my office by one crazy veiled member (yes, I still remember who you are).
During this time, Rob asked me if I would begin reviewing recordings. But there was one catch. I had to unmasked myself and so, "BroadwayBulldog" barked his last bark and José was born to BWW.com. Since March '04, a new cd recording reviewed every two weeks. Whew!
In this crazy world, we laughed and cried together, ate dinners and got drunk together, saw theatre together, and generally had a great time.
In spite of all that's gone before, I want you to know that my life is ever more so fulfilling, in every aspect. Because of that I have decided to remain a member of BWW.com, with no plans to leave anytime soon.
I know some of you will be upset by that announcement, but being the nice guy that I am, I will still accept, and read, your vitriol-inked PMs. To the many, many others who know me and love me, I'm still here for you.
