Posted: 3/13/08 at 9:58amI'm guessing that the new studies on HPV have made this number go up... because people are finally realizing how widespread it is. It's so hard to catch, because often there are NO signs. And correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there cases where HPV doesn't have to be sexually transmitted - it can develop on its own? I'm not sure how rare those are, but I know that contributes to the number.

Posted: 3/13/08 at 10:06amI was taught in high school that there was no way to "test" for HPV. There had to be a visible symptom that could then be removed, sent to a lab, and tested to see if it was in fact HPV. I thought there was no way to tell through a blood test if someone had HPV.

So much for abstinence-only sex education...why is it that parents expect their children to wait longer than they did? Back when I was a much smaller pup, I remember girls in the 5th grade having sex and it can't have gotten BETTER since then what with iPods and Red Bull and Juicy suits.
