Boy Killed With Pa. Lawmaker's Gun
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- A 14-year-old boy who had been taking care of a state lawmaker's pets was shot to death with the man's handgun, and authorities were investigating whether the death was a suicide, an accident or something else....
Boy Killed With REPUBLICAN Pa. Lawmaker's Gun
Like, so much drama!
i wonder how old regola's son is.
This is the saddest, most anger-provoking part of the article:
"The state does not require gun locks or locked gun cabinets, Peck said."
Why not, Pennsylvania?

I've said it before. No one needs to own a gun. Period!
that's truly very sad
This is about a half an hour from me. Pennsylvania has long been regarded (by the KKK, for what that's worth!) as Philadelphia on one side, Pittsburgh on the other, and Alabama in between. There are only 2 counties in PA that are blue, and guess what 2 cities are in those counties?
All the gun owners I know have gun vaults, for lack if a better word---they look like those old time bank safes, large and substantial.
And there will always be guns.

why do we need to own guns? it's as easy as that kid would be alive if there wasn't a gun in the house. ok, so he would've died from something else.
Defense purposes come to mind.
Right.
I live in New York City and have never once felt like I needed a gun to protect myself.
It's tragic.
Regardless of who owned the gun.
If I had a gun, every other pedestrian on the streets of NY would be shot.

I'm just guessing but here is my tally for Senator Regola's gun:
defense:0
accidental death:1

I agree with Chita... no one needs a gun.
And throw the 2nd amendment out the window? Shame shame....

I don't undestand some people's stupidity. While, yes, I believe the Bill of Rights is relavent, we must remember it was made over 2 years ago. Things change! 2 years ago owning guns might have been important, but today it is not! Guns kill! If we believe things that mattered years ago, then I fully believe the world is flat. Come on people realize that times change. That article is very disheartening.

I belive that it is ok to own a gun, but it would be better if no one owned a gun because then there would be no point. No need for that much self defence.
The actual interpretation of the second amendment is under dispute -
The NRA advocates the absolute right to bear arms.
But the actual text of the Amendment reads as follows: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Arguably, the right to bear arms is only contingent upon the need for a well-regulated Militia. With the existence of a National Guard, there is no absolute right to bear Arms.
And theaterboi, I think you meant over 200 years ago.
You can regulate driving a car, but not owning a gun - there needs to be better checks and balances on guns.
"You can regulate driving a car, but not owning a gun - there needs to be better checks and balances on guns."
The same sould be said for freedom of speech---I believe in freedom of speech, but with that comes personal responsibility, and too may people engage their mouth before their brain....
