I love the games and especially the Opening Ceremony.
I was fairly disappointed with this program. Mr. Boyle, a very talented film director seemed to take this to a UK tourism exhibition and history lesson with an overdose of well done film segments of Britan.
Technically it was impressive, of course. I thought the lighting ceremony, the childrens' choirs singing from the different Isles of Britan, the formation of the Olympic rings, the fireworks were all fitting and well done.
However, I did not get the logics of devouting a world wide audience to hail the UK's health system. Really? $40 million dollars for floating, glow beds, dancing doctors, a 70's /80's techno dance party,a parachuting 007 + Queen. 24 mins. of a giant Disney's "Carousel of Progess" style history lesson in the Industrial Revolution, set to tacky klunking and drumming.
IMO, one of the highlights of the program was Mr. Bean's "musical note".
I was waiting for Ewoks to appear as the roots of that "Tree of Life" arose. Very amaturish, imo.
Forgive me if I appear disrespectful but did anyone take notes from the awesome program in Beijing? Small wonder the Royals looked bored especially the Queen checking her manicure! Just my opinion, folks.
Guess I expected to see international sensational spectacle that celebrates the world and all its people at the Olympics. Very disappointed.
Let the games begin. I'm sure they will be wonderful!
