I was eight years old, when the Beatles took the planet. They became part of human consciousness overnight. The furore, I will never forget. They were, are, embedded deep within my psyche.

On that foulest of days, I was on sick leave from work with a fractured arm, feeling like a walk, I strolled to the shops for the evening paper.

Somehow, I managed not to look at the headline on the front page of The South Wales Argus. I think heaven averted my eyes, so the world wouldn't have to see the tears that fell when I beheld that awful headline - John Lennon dead.
