I just finished watching tonight's Daily Show, and Jon interviewed Morgan Spurlock, the man who developed and "starred" in Super Size Me. He now has a new show on the FX channel called "30 Days". The general concept is for one person from a self-identified group to live for 30 days in the shoes of someone who would, on the surface, appear to be their polar opposite. For example, tomorrow's show revolves around a Christian man who lives with and as a Muslim for a month, and coming up will be a former military officer who lives with a gay man in SF. In the premiere episode, Spurlock and his fiancee worked and lived off of minimum wage, etc.
We don't get this show up in Canada, but the concept fascinated me. I was curious what people who have seen the show thought of it (the idea as well as the actual product). It seems like a great idea that gives the opportunity for people to "walk a mile" in someone else's shoes and re-think many misconceptions we have of certain groups of people, as long as they aren't being exploited as stereotypes for the sake of "good TV".
yes! so far i've only seen the minimum wage episode, but it was *really* good. it's basicly in the same style as "super size me" complete with cute cartoons and bitingly accurate truths. i have it on tivo season pass so i can make copies for you if you like. it's a really insightful program.
Thanks Feinstein, I would love it if you could do that for me! PM me tomorrow (I'm logging off soon) and we'll work something out. I really enjoyed "Super Size Me", and I have high hopes for this show!
I have the first two episodes recorded. I can't wait to watch them!
Any chance you could keep them on your TiVO until the 18th, Jerby? Would love to see them.
