I thought this show was pretty funny (though, I also saw the orginal pilot where Rachel Dratch was the Jane Krakowski part and thought it was a little funnier). However, Tina Fey is so funny. And Tracy Morgan is hilarious in this. I hope it sticks around.

It had more laughs in it's 30 minutes tonight than Studio 60 has had in it's month on air.

I don't think Studio 60 is going for laughs.

Sadly, I think both shows are doomed (tho Studio 60 MAY survive by virtue of its demographic) The truth is- people ( or @ least Neilsen et all people) are not interested in the backroom mysterys of how a TV show gets on the air.( funnily enuf news shows seem except from this) It is usually TOO insider oriented and makes the viewer somehow think that there is a "club" out there which he/she is being shown that they are NOT a member. And they resent it.

I don't know about all that, but I do know that both shows are good so far and are also lightyears funnier and wittier than the current season of SNL.

JRB, I completely agree. I mean I love SNL but the past 4 or 5 years (Since Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer left) the show has pretty much sucked. There have been several individual funny moments but as a whole it's pretty much gone down the tubes. And, I'm sorry but the fact that some of the hosts are doing it year after year (Lindsay Lohan 3 times in 3 years) is annoying. Get new hosts, it's all about variation!

Anyway I thought 30 Rock had some really good laughs and the show is really different from Studio 60 even though they have the same setting. They are both new and different shows. I say let's just see what happens.

i watched. i thought it blew. the only thing i laughed at was rachel's initial introduction of the cat wrangler. i've heard it gets better in week 2, but this week did nothing for me. i found the promo funnier. the one where alec baldwin supposedly realizes for the first time that he's ont not signed on for "studio 60." now that's funny.

You know a show is going to suck when it includes verbatim dialogue from a commercial that plays in the same half hour.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Actually Gotham I thought incorporating the commercial was brilliant. That character would indeed talk like that and i loved how they managed to get GE sponsorship and make fun of GE at the same time!

I'll fully admit that I've never understood the appeal of Tina Fey. I wouldn't say that I've never found her funny, but I don't think she's the comedy genius other people seem to think. That was my full disclosure before I admit that I thought the show was positively terrible. I may accused of "not getting it," but I just didn't think it was funny.

And is it me, or is there something different about Tracy Morgan? He looks different somehow but I can't figure out what it is.

Is that what it is? That could be what I was seeing. He just looked off, almost computer generated.

Well, that's what I think it is. He does look omputer generated now that he's an uneasy sack of much smaller flesh on a once-bigger frame.

Works for me. I'm glad that it turned out that I was seeing something and that I wasn't just having a flashback.

I didn't think it was funny, either. So disappointing.

And I've been a fan of Fey's in the past. Mean Girls was terrific.

Alec Baldwin is fun, though, and sexy as ever.

"i loved how they managed to get GE sponsorship and make fun of GE at the same time!"

Well, GE does own NBC...

I didn't think the show was that good, but I had seen most of the scenes in the previews on the NBC website - it was much better with Dratch in her original role. Don't like Krakowski at all. And I've grown tired of Tina Fey.

I caught a little of the first episode on Bravo last night. The parts I saw were kind of funny.

Why was Dratch replaced so abruptly?
I thought the show was funny although the actors need to grow more into their roles. Krakowski seemed a bit awkward in some scenes but as the show went on I thought she got funnier (her face after the assistant comes with the cream in front of Alec Baldwin's character was priceless). Fey had some good scenes and some weak scenes and her writing was usually spot-on (though sometimes she needs to realize this is not SNL). Dratch seems to be there just because she is Dratch, if they were going to replace her they should've built a good character for her.

You ain't seen bad until you've checked out the new John Lithgow sitcom, Twenty Good Years. It might makes 30 Rock (and just about every other new series) look positively Shakespearian.
