#1$420 Raised for BC/EFA
Posted: 4/14/09 at 4:44pm
I'm a little more than halfway to my personal goal so I've decided to aim for the team goal. So, I have until April 26 to raise an additional $340.
If you want a help then please do.

don't have a total update yet today but I remain hopeful. I know ya'll are reading and some have even donated because there are names I don't recognize on my list. I can only guess their BWW names. I've posted here, myspace, facebook, and have sent emails to friends, coworkers, and family. I know all those people.
But the real reason I'm bumping this is because I wanted to share something a friend of mine said. She said she'd love to help Broadway Cares but wouldn't because I didn't choose a good show. When I asked her to expand on this she stated that the Marvelous Wonderettes is giving young girls false hopes and that it's teaching them that life is easy and everything works out in the end. I couldn't even respond. First, she's going to deny Broadway Cares as a whole her donation and then she's going to say that Marvelous Wonderettes is hurting young girls? I was flabbergasted. I mean, what the crap? She wants to send the Marvelous Wonderettes a message. After listening to her I doubted she even saw the show. The show isn't going to break much emotional ground but it's hardly damaging to the psyche of a young girl. Look at Susie in the show. She's able to stand up for herself in the end and not be a doormat. Cindy Lou learns that she doesn't have to always be the best and becomes happy with the person that she is. Betty Jean and Missy don't have real "lessons" unless you can also say that Missy stood up for herself. But Betty Jean's lesson is hard to find. Unless you can say she learned to forgive.

Oh, and I know there is some confusion over how my thermometer on the site and my total here are different. I have $90 in offline gifts that BC/EFA has to manually post to the account. So, currently it's $275+$90=$365. Then, $500-$365=$135.
I know it seems like a lot but if 9 people gave $15 each we'd have the goal.

BC/EFA has added one of my offline gifts to my online total. So now my thermometer now reads $295. Still waiting on the other $70 to be added.
Still holding at $265 currently. I'm really determined to, at least, hit $500.
There is no prize for this. The only "prize" I get is the knowledge that I did the right thing.
It's also opening my eyes about a lot of people in my life. I've already shared the tale of my friend who won't donate because the Marvelous Wonderettes is "hurting" young woman. But I haven't yet discussed how much hate the word "AIDS" can stir in a person. I was actually told by someone that they don't give money to organizations who keep diseased people alive and let them infect others. There's more too. It's really helped me to see who I want in my life and who I don't.
btw...since posting this on BWW I've raised raised $205 and some of that is thanks to you guys.

Just bumping this before bed. Still at $370 and only need $130 to hit $500. Hopefully I'll wake up to a few more bucks in the "kitty".

Just met another closeminded person. This one won't give because he doesn't think it's "right" that the BC/EFA helps out of work actors. "They should just find other jobs".
If it were only that easy.

Eris, tell them all of the other amazing things that BC/EFA does. The money doesn't only go to the NY theatre community, or only those with HIV and AIDS. It also supports the Phyllis Newman Health Initiative (women's health, especially breast cancer), and they're one of the first groups to respond when any other disaster hits. Just look at all their fundraising after Hurricane Katrina and the Tsunami.
(I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but people sometimes forget all of the other wonderful things that BC/EFA does just because 'AIDS' is in the organization's name.)

Oh, I do tell them everything I can and I share the links so they can read themselves. Some people just pick on one thing and stick with it. It's not always worth the effort arguing with one fool.
But you know what...I'm $80 away from $500 and $100 away from the #1 slot. That's pretty awesome.

Posted: 4/22/09 at 4:13pmOne of my coworkers just promised to donate $50 which would bring me to $470. So, if he follows through on that promise, I would need $30 to reach $500 and $50 to tie for first place.
#22re: BC/EFA Goal
Posted: 4/22/09 at 10:36pmNow I'm $170 out of first place. I think Billy Elliot is cheating.

Posted: 4/22/09 at 11:13pmI thought the idea was to get money to BC/EFA, not for individuals to win races. If competitions between the shows will bring them more money then it's good and not a cause for accusations of 'cheating'.
