I remember very clearly the resulting antiwar demonstration in Times Square, and the Fox coverage (their heyday, 2001 -- 2004) suggesting that anyone who marched was, in addition to not being a patriot, personally destroying New York's economy. "First 9/11, and now THIS. What are the poor tourists to think?" What would they think of the 4,000 dead American soldiers and 100,000+ dead Iraqi's? What would they think about the civilians killed by Americans on Saturday and again yesterday? I guess if "the surge is working," it's just a question of "whoops."
