"Maurer and Mondloch hypothesize that if these connections between the senses are functional, as some experiments suggest, then infants should experience the world in a way that is similar to synesthetic adults.
In a variation of this theory, babies don’t have five distinct senses but rather one all-encompassing sense that responds to the total amount of incoming stimulation. So when a baby hears her mother’s voice, she is also seeing it and smelling it."
If the theory were true, it would have an interesting impact on the development of young brains. It coud even help explain young children's inability to learn speech after a certain age. and there seeming connectedness to other things we do not see. A very interestin theory I thought it would be fun to share.
A girl I knew in high school was a synesthete.
She saw words as colors as well.
She also "saw" music as colors and pictures.
And she saw PEOPLE as different colors (well, around them. Like auras or something. I never really understood it.)
She said I was purple with gold flecks, if I remember correctly.
I'm a synasthete.
This is so cool! I asked my friend if she heard voices as colors and felt kinda odd..how cool!
Edit: I'm not sure if I am totally a synesthete, but I definitely have qualities of one. I relate colors to a lot of things.
What color is BroadwayWorld?!
Son, it's definitely a patchwork of colors. I'm leaning more toward the indigo/violet actually...
