I remember when THE DAY AFTER was something of a national sensation. I wasn't allowed to watch it. Wasn't allowed to watch THREADS, either, which I still really want to see.
Did see TESTAMENT. And WARGAMES of course. Any others?

I loved these! I was in college at the time. There was also Special Bulletin and World War III. Special Bulletin involved a supposed nuclear terrorist and was presented like a live news broadcast. They had to have disclaimers throughout the show. We watched WWIII in my dorm room and laughed because as soon as the Russians take over the skies all become overcast and all the American women start wearing babuschkas.
For The Day After the school had viewing parties and post-show discussions around campus.

I was shattered by Jane Alexander's performance in Testament. I couldn't believe it was originally shot as a television film.
I can't add to the list except for The Atomic Cafe. It's a great doc made entirely out of newsreel and test footage. Not a drama, but haunting nonetheless.

If you don't mind venturing outside the 80s, 1965's The War Game holds up well and is an interesting treatment of the subject, especially for the time.
