Just need to complain to people who might understand...(and not run back to my director...LOL)

I just got back from our costume parade for Music Man, and I have got the absolutely worst costume.

Originally, the costumer said, "I don't have anything for you, so I'm going shopping". I asked if there was anything I could do, she said no. So I never heard from her until yesterday, when she said, "Yes, I have a dress. Don't worry'.

Well...I'm a "Pick-a-Little" lady...actually the one with the solo. All the other girls dresses are full of lace, long sleeves, very ornate and elaborate. Mine, on the other hand, looks like a dress from the late 80's (which is probably is). I look like I should be homeschooling kids in the middle of Arkansas. It has a small lace collar and is flowered. Not to mention that it barely comes to my shins....but then again, most of the dresses are too short for my taste for this show. Oh...and did I mention that I was the only Pick a Little to not have a hat? (They are supposed to be making me one).

Anyway, I was really dissappointed, partly because I had a dress at home, that was similar to the other girls, but was told it's no good because it's black. I just tried to use a color remover on it, but it's determined to stay black, so I guess I'm stuck with my 80's dress.

Oh yeah...and she doesn't like my tan character shoes, so I have to find ivory shoes for the show!

Ok..thanks for letting me vent....If you read this far, I thank you!

Wow, I know how you feel. I was a teen in "The Music Man" and my clothes were NOTHING like every other teen, partially cuz I was bigger then them all! LOL but anywho. I know how you feel.

I understand how frustrating it can be when you're stuck with a terrible costume, but take it in strides, and maybe attempt to use it for your character? you can have fun with it! :)

See through yellow leotard. I know how you feel. Evil costumers.

make-up artists, too. I had a cuban mustache once...glued on with liquid latex. NOT FUN to take off.

oh yes...I didn't mention that our togas for the "Grecian Urn" scene are see through. And did I mention that I have a number of students in the cast??

It's pretty sad when the best costume is the scary "gym suit" we get to wear at the top of act 2. The one with bloomers and a big sailor collar.

It's my turn. My costume for Once Upon a Mattress was disgusting. I played the Minstrel, and I wore a pukey green thing with a smelly rug/blanket top thing with a big ugly green hat and freakin shoes. I hated it.

It smelled like mildew and also like it had been stored in a closet for the last fifty years. Not pretty.

I know how you feel. When we did costume parade for my last show, the director didn't like the dress I had for the last scene. It was so perfect, and of course the one he picked out was SO DRAB. I learned to love it though, it was suprisingly flattering.

I have to say I am surprised they are NOT renting anything for this show. I guess I'm just so neurotic about costumes when I do things, I'm a bit disappointed with what I've seen so far. Also, I think the show is pretty good, and I don't think the costumes do it justice.

Now I am off to find ivory shoes! This should be fun! It took me 2 years to find a pair of navy heels! LOL

"I look like I should be homeschooling kids in the middle of Arkansas."

LOL. Thank you for that!

Sorry about the costume troubles. I hope it works out for you.

When I did South Pacific, they thought it would be a good idea for us to make tube tops out of GARBAGE BAGS the night before for the "Honey Bun" number... those were certainly comfortable and stylish (especially with paper cut-outs of flowers taped on). What show did they think we were doing? Brooklyn?
