One of the things I missed when my office moved from Brooklyn Heights to lower Manhattan were the bar restauarants on Montague Street. They were a good place to relax and have a bite after work.
“Annie's Blue Moon had a nice crowd, decent menu and the bartender Todd was a nice guy. After we moved, I'd stop by from time to time for a visit. About a year ago, I stopped by and “Annie's” was closed with two signs on the door. “Real Estate Office Coming Soon!” and “Todd is bartending at “Centro.”
I walked over to “Centro” a new place down the street and asked Todd what happened.
He told me that the owner told the staff ten days before that they were closing. I visited there a couple of times when I stopped off in Brooklyn Heights.
Tonight I wanted to shop at “The Garden of Eden” after work. I went to say “Hello” to Todd and “Centro” was gone and gutted, replaced by a mattress store. “Wow,” I'll never see Todd again,” I thought.
So I went to the Heights Cafe, to get some mussels for a bite and there behind the bar is Todd. As he turned to say “Hi,” I said “Jeez Todd, when is this place closing?”
