THE PATTY DUKE SHOW THEMESONG
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQTqKcojrVY&NR=1
While Cathy adores a minuet, the Ballets Russes and Crepes Suzette...
Our Patty loves to rock-and-roll, a hotdog makes her lose control...
They don't have lawns like that in Brooklyn Heights!
Which one became the pill-popping, booze-guzzling screaming harpie? Patty or Cathy?
If Lucy and Jessie could only combine,
I could tell you someone who would finally feel just fine!

Oh, that's the good version with the guitar that goes "dur dur durn" after "but they're cousins"!
Hot dogs : the gateway drug
eta: Wow William Shallert is still working today at 87! Way to go Mr Lane!
That Cathy is a real biotch! She just loves pulling off old lady's wigs. She's just out of control!

SNAFU that is from the 3rd season when they started to film the show in LA. If you see the opening for season 1 and 2 you will see what the real Brooklyn Hts looked like from the 60's.
Jon what did you write?
Making fun of Helen Keller... It is just too soon!
reminds me of an old "race record" rock song from before the days when the word "rock" was used to describe the music:

Ah, Patty memories ...
My dad was a cameraman on this show for the first two seasons (72 episodes) when it filmed in NY.
Dad's on the right, in front, looking sorta like Clark Kent.
Full cast and crew on the set ...
Besty, I love those photos! Handsome dad! (Handsome son!)
Great thread, PJ!
*blushes*
Thanks ever so, Addy.
Interesting trivia: Patty had one double and one stand-in (both are sitting next to her in that big company shot).
The double (used on-camera mostly from behind) was Peggy Lee's real-life daughter.
Peggy Lee's daughter was the back of Patty/Cathy's head?
That's kind of mind-blowing itself.
I love that your father was a cameraman on a show that was such a part of my childhood. He didn't happen to work on Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie too, did he?
Nope, PJ. "The Patty Duke Show" (or "The Daddy Puke Show" as they sometimes called it) was his only long-term series. He took the job just a few months after I was born. He loved the cast and crew. Great people. And he said Patty was wonderful. She treated everyone extremely well. He took me on set a few times as a baby. I even sat in her lap while legendary makeup man Dick Smith got her ready for whichever cousin she was playing that moment. I was too young to remember, though.
Dad was mostly freelance and did both still and motion camera work. Life Magazine (for years), Candid Camera, commercials, all three news networks. He was also a cameraman on the feature film How To Murder Your Wife (Jack Lemmon), filmed largely in NY.
I don't know if it's still true, but back then, I.A.T.S.E. had separate "local" unions for east coast and west coast. So when Patty took her show out to California for the final season, they hired a full west coast crew. That's why Dad did just the first two seasons.
One other nice story about Patty and her show ...
I now have a cut crystal salad bowl with a silver rim, plus a silver serving fork and spoon. It's engraved with "Patty Duke Show 1964."
This was her holiday gift to all the cast and crew that year.
Interesting posts, best12bars. My obscene and "off color" (no pun intended) post seems to be out of place with your nice reminiscences, so I've (voluntarily) edited my post.
besty that's very cool!
And my post acknowledging Jon's post was deleted as well. I think PalJoey had one deleted too.
Thanks SF & Estrella!
But what got you deleted? ... Something shockingly inappropriate with a hotdog?!

My deleted post was a parody of the Patty Duke Theme Song, but about Helen Keller.
"A Hot Dog Makes Her Lose Control"
What does that even mean, anyway? That she loves to eat hot dogs so much that whenever she sees one she can't contain herself? Or am I thinking too innocently here?
I don't know Stage.........it really doesn't make much sense does it.

Wasn't there a time, before the age of Ritalin, where folks thought that A.D.H.D. was caused by eating too many hot dogs?
