On a per capita basis Canada has almost the same rate of gun ownership that the US does - they just don't go around shooting each other as much.

I follow a Toronto-based CBC nighttime news guy on Twitter ( @LateNightCam ) - he documents quite a bit of violent crime in his feed but it's more fights and stabbings than shootings.
