Has anyone ever seen the movie or read the book? because we just got done reading it for school, it was creepy

Ways to annoy people: Arrive at a meeting late, say you're sorry, but you didn't have time for lunch, and you're going to be nibbling during the meeting. Then eat raw potatoes. Ask people what gender they are,or Disagree strongly with everything anybody says:)

Yeah, I had to read it two years ago for my sophomore year. Didn't enjoy it that much, and I was one of the few people in the class who really liked Finny and thought that Gene had very strange mental problems.

oh yah, it was so creepy when gene put on finny's clothes after he knocked him out of the tree! I hated finny at the beginning of the book but I liked him after he broke his leg. I really hated Brinker.

A Separate Peace is a coded gay love story. Taking that as a point of departure the whole book ought to make sense and not be nearly so 'creepy'.

I read it in 10th grade, and though it may not be my favorite book ever, it certainly was my favorite book I was forced to read that year. I dunno, it had a lot more to it than most books, and just kind of made me think..and yeah. I liked it.

My friend Toby plays Finny in the movie.
It is not as good as the book.

I too was required to read it my sophomore year of high school. I actually enjoyed it and I don't particularly enjoy reading unless it's something I know I'm interested in to begin with.

I had to read it my freshman year for summer reading. I didn't really enjoy it much, though. Maybe it was because it was required reading, I dunno. It made me depressed.

Woah, freaky, so did we. Any chance you live in Michigan? :)

I HATED this book, with a passion. Sure, the story might have been good. But the writing, was just horrendous(sp?) I was bored to death when I read the first chapter. I couldn't stand the characters. I was just bored.

Now, I'm an avid reader. I go through four or five books a week. So it's not like I hate reading, I love it. But this book... was just. Blech.

The movie wasn't bad though, a few cuties here and there.

I love it. One of my favorite books. The movie wasn't as good as the book though. I will never forget the tree or the half moons in the staircase.

Anyway, as of now, I'm enjoying it. A little odd, here and there, perhaps, but I like it.

We finished watching the movie in Lit. class today, and some parts of it were kind of funny on accident. People started cracking up when Finny fell, and when Gene pushed Leper and he curled up in a fetal postion in the snow. Oh yah, and the part when they were in the courtroom and they started dancing around going "Leper, he only has one ball" that was weird and kind of out of nowhere!

Had to read it sophomore year
but that was the year of my 2nd worst English teacher ever and any goodwill I had towards the books was completely destroyed after his teachings on it (over analyzation yet somehow not really delving into the novels darker themes)

What is this statement based on? I know of a comment Mr. Knowles made in an interview (Gene and Finny were in love) that has been used to question not only the characters' sexuality but his, as well. However, none of that speculation has stood up under analysis. Is there some other basis for this supposition?

My teacher had to explain to us that in no way or shape or form are they in love like that they are just very good friends but we kept bring up how ppl thought Cacius and Brutus were lovers in Julius Caesar which we read b4 this

Wow. I didn't realize there was speculation as to whether or not it was actually written that way. I just thought it was me being tired and over-analytical, and reading things as subtext, where it wasn't intended. Huh.

I'm assuming it was written as a very tight bond between two boys who do love each other, as brothers, or something. But couldn't their relationship be a personal interpretation, on the part of the reader?

I thought it had homoerotic subtexts, but I was also a horny gay teenager that had a crush on my best friend....
