I read this small article on a newspaper and I think it is fascinating, so, I want to share it with you. I am not endorsing it, but i find it such an intersting reading. This is History and the similiarities are haunting :
"After manuevring the legally challenged elections, a small man with mediocre intelligence and a very simplistic theory rises to power heading a small cast of extreme idealists. On his first year in office, a terrorist act towards a building of big symbolic status, gives him the ability to stabilize his power and with the help of a very strong propagandistic mechanism, he succeeds to turn the citizens against the whole world. His fiery speeches about family values and nationality and against all the minorities as well as his strong beliefs that any nation that is not with him is against him and should be conquered by the nation's strong armed forces, are gaining supporters. And then, the most defining elections in the history of the nation take place and this man wins.
We are in Germany and the year is 1933. The man is Adolf Hitler... "
Wow !
Take care

yeah, and we all know that Hitler was France's fault.

That's a little creepy, although the comparisons are a little vague.
And who's fault are you, RodneyK?
May be so Mythus. But if we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat it! Like the next four god forsaken years

I have to say that I certainly don't believe that Bush is like Hitler. But I just loved the article, because when i started reading it, I was certain that it was about the U.S and when i got to the end I was speechless !
RodneyK... Your mother was a disease infected parasite that got knocked up by your backwoods hillbilly pig-f*cking granddaddy, you small minded, ignorant, inbred piece of horsesh*t!

Not to get off track with the Rodney beatdown (and BOY are those fun) but what 1932/33 terrorist attack are they referring to?

I believe they're talking about the Reichstag, but I can't be sure.
"And wouldja believe it? Somebody burned down the Reichstag. And they made me chancellor - chancellor!"
On a side note, I love Gary Beach so much.

Mythus is right. There was a bombing of the Reichstag building.

A bombing? Didn't a man run in there with a torch whilst the guardsman was occupied?
Broadway Legend Joined: 12/31/69
yes. a torch.
and he worked for Hitler.
but, Mythus has me blocked so he'll never know.

I don't think the man worked for Hitler, but I can't remember much about the 1930's since I wasn't alive then. I'd have to do a little more research.
On another note, I'm not bothering to correct you.

I am so sorry, I really am tired. I wrote bombing when I wanted to write torching. Thanks Mythus, my bad.
And on a side note, please don't fight ! Rodney is expressing his opinion. It is natural that he is happy and excited that his party won and maybe sometimes he gets a little bit carried away, but I don't think he is offensive and certainly not on this post. I, too, strongly disagree about his political views, but I strongly support he is entitled to them.
Take care

Fighting? Who's fighting? *mock gasp* Not me! Just saying that if RodneyK thinks I'm a gay man, he can go right along thinking that. Actually, that would be fun.
If only Hitler got into Art school. none of that would have happened.
Um, let me be the first person to point out that a comparison like that makes no sense. You can't use history to make comparisons to modern day occurances all the time. People continually try to do that but they don't see that you can apply any historical event to any number of current events and find parallels but with completely different outcomes. Should one learn from history? Of course. Should one compare to history as a basis for an argument? Absolutely not.

Greekmusicalfan, Did you read that article online? If you did, would you mind pasting the url so I may forward it to some friends?

I think the Germans would have re-risen in the late thirties without Hitler. The Germans were not properly beaten down in WWI.
Mythus, I had never given one moment's thought to your gender or orientation.

Which is why you called me a "he", of course.
And, for the record, I think you're extremely racist.
bmeonbway2, I am really sorry, but I read it on a Greek newspaper. There was an article about the Elections and it was in the middle of the page highlighted. I think, though, that the whole article was a translation from the French newspaper Le Liberation but I am not sure.
And bythesword84, I agree, but i just thought that the similiarities mentioned were very interesting.

I agree that it is an interesting article. Thanks, though.
"And, for the record, I think you're extremely racist"
Oh, Mythus, sorry but I can't resist it..
"Everyone's a little bit racist" LOL
Isn't it better when we remember the things that unite us than those that divide us ? :)
Take care
