Hi everyone!

I'm starting a new website called onstagereviews.org where the premise will be simple, the readers write the show reviews!

Basically, all the broadway shows will be listed (eventually we would want to expand to off-broadway, cabaret spaces, other cities...), and after you see the show you could rate it then post your 2cents.

The website would organize the reviews, and tally a score (unlike BWW where you have to scroll through the posts to get an idea.)

We'd also probably offer a forum/board for more detailed discussion of the shows, etc.

It's not BWW replacement though, we're strictly about the shows.

I honestly feel this is filling a void in the broadway market. I'm not doing this to get rich or anything, just because it's a website id like to see happen.

If you want to help out getting the shows listed, moderating comments, coding(? I can take care of most of it, but if anyone had any computer skills to offer, etc...), or anything else you think could be helpful, please email info@onstagereviews.org.

Thanks, and looking forward to hearing from you!

The premise of your website already exists. It's called StageGrade.com.

Sorry to rain on your parade.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Umm.. No

Stagegrade's goal is to sell tickets, they feature critic reviews, and are a broadway.com ticket reseller. Hardly impartial.

Never heard of stagegrade.com, but just looked at it. It's OK, I guess, but for myself, I would want to know the non-professional critic's age, location, how often they see shows, and the critiques themselves should answer some kind of parameters set by you or your website: such as: What do you look for in a show, critique of various elements, such as lighting, scenic, costumes, acting, musical staging, were you satisfied, who would you reccommend the show to, and no personal attacks. Something like that; structured reviews.eah, and DATE you saw the show, and date you reviewed it.

Good luck, I'm always in for a positive idea!

tiny, those are all great suggestions. I agree they should be reviewing by some set out parameters,

ie. NOT like "I didn't like the show." but more like answering questions on a grading scale. Also, yes, no personal attacks.

Theateradvisor does something very similar. There are a couple of websites that do want you're planning to do, but none have really taken off. Good luck!
