A thought on BWW Message Board

I think this is generally a great site for information on the reason why all of us are here : THEATRE. However, a few things have caught my attention since I've been a member.

Particular members who know (or at least should know) who they are have a very short temper when it comes to certain posts. When I look at this site and when I see posts come on, I consider it very much like an essay to a teacher. The teacher is to assume nothing and wants as much info as possible, much like the 1st posters. They want to be educated about their particular posts, and I see no harm in that. No matter how small or large, simplistic or complicated the questions/comments may be, there's no reason to get all bent out of shape. I think the rule of "Thumper" should be greatly taken to heart " If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all"...I know that a reply requires work...."1)Reply to message, 2)type your response and 3)post message", so if you're going to take time to do that, be careful about what you're saying.

Final thought on this: Just assume we know nothing and educate us in a nice way.

And as far as the posters who cry all the time about the same posts coming up over and over again, GET THE HELL OVER IT.
If everyone liked WICKED and wanted to post something about it, they're entitled to do just that. Everyone on this site has their own opinion, and if posts of similar content keep coming up, either ignore it or log off and go for a walk. There's no need to call attention to yourself by saying "this is old and tierd" or "this comes up all the time"...We're not stupid, we know they keep appearing but even so that doesn't mean we have to be rude about it....

Thank you for covering something that has been covered over and over. These threads are getting more tiring than the Wicked threads, which I don't see very often anymore.

You already put a word in with the poster in question, so why generalize it and whine about the board at large? You're taking the personal and trying to make it into a larger issue. It won't work.

It's not only one poster, I see this with multiple posters.

J-Lo's wedding cake is old and tiered.

I, like a teacher, am old and tired.

May we still correct spelling?

(Yes, I know it was a typo, still....)

re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board

Making threads decrying the bitchy attitude of some people here isn't going to make those people any less bitchy. Like I said, you're just taking a personal issue and trying to make it something larger, and it won't work. The catty will remain catty, and it's not anyone's duty to try and put them in their place. Just avoid people you don't like, or take it up with them on a one-by-one basis.

re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board

It's not my place to MAKE anyone change their ways for my own personal happiness. I don't like when people are rude to me, and I don't care for it when people are rude to others. This isn't just MY issue, I see a lot of people's posts get bashed on. I was just passing along info at large to give people something to think about. Whether or not they want to change the way they act is up to them, but there shouldn't be any harm by a simple request "play nice"...even 1st graders know that.

BRAVO,NYC! I completely agree with you. The attitude of a lot of the posters here is horrific, but they enjoy the attention they get for behaving badly. This is the main reason I rarely visit this board. They'll never change. Try TalkinBroadway.com - it can still be catty(this is theatre, after all), but is a little more adult.

re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board

I agree with you NYC! Look at the response you've already gotten from this thread! Exactly what you talked about. I don't think what you said is going to change anyone. There are too many stubborn people on here. But I think what you said was very true.

re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board

Oh, lord. You're holding up ATC as an alternative to this place for people who don't like cattiness? Goodness me. Maybe you haven't been there when it really gets going.

re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board

Look, people obviously don't need to be such bastards about topics they regard as "stupid," but I don't find making threads saying, "Be nice, you meanies" to be a very endearing behavior, either.

re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board

I would guess that everyone has their bitchy moments, and there are some threads that make you want to scream...but there is definitely a lot of unnecessary nastiness here, and it only drives people away and is ultimately detrimental to the board. That being said, I will continue to correct anyone who misuses the term "soundtrack."

"The attitude of a lot of the posters here is horrific, but they enjoy the attention they get for behaving badly."

Attention? No attention is given.

I don't do it all the time and search for threads to do so on, but when I feel it best, I'll NOT answer the question and have the poster conduct a search. (And at least for myself, I check to see if they are newly registered. But you'd be surprised at how long others have been here - years.)

Why criticize others for making repeat posts? My list:

1) Americans in general are lazy. This is especially the case online. Many type "lol" or "brb" or other web short-cuts. Get off your ass, keep your fingers on the keyboard, and do the work! In this case, a few mouseclicks and keystrokes will have the user find their answer quicker than taking the SAME F*CKING AMOUNT OF TIME to create a post, and then wait on a response!!!

2) Duplicate posts are a waste. A waste of web space on Rob's server. One little post doesn't really make a difference, but they all add up, and it costs him money. He has never complained, and he's right not to. It not a critical problem, and he's not losing much.

3) Duplicate posts are annoying for the regular visitors here. Why should we have to sift through an entire page of 90% "Did you know Idina is the best actress ever?" to find the 10% of posts, some of which we also won't be interested in.

Yes - duplicate posts affects me, you, Rob, and the poster.

re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board

Frankly, there should be different forums for different topics. As long as there is only one forum where any kind of question is asked this will be a persistant problem.

Someone could have asked something a few days ago but it's no longer conveniently in sight because 100 other threads have been created since then and it's a bother to search through them all to find it. As a result, a new thread about the same damn thing gets created.

re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board

More forums is NOT what we need. There are already three to look through.

What's posted in one forum would only be posted in another forum, and that would take more time going from forum to forum to forum.

re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board

Attitude is an entirely different issue. There are several posters here who "bash" - which seems to be the popular term here. Sometimes it is done through humor, other times of hatred.

This is why there are forum moderators. Forum moderators decide, according to the owner's guidelines, if a thread or poster is doing something they shouldn't.

So if the bashing happens, it is because no course of action is being taken to stop them. Good or bad? This is not my website, so it's not up to me. But personally, I enjoy the freedom of speech. I just hate when it happens to newbies.

Again, back to the several threads idea - NOT for each Broadway show! - is what I meant. General forums are best, such as what we have: Broadway, West End, and Off-topic. I am happy with how things run now.

Is anyone really NOT satisfied with the BWW community?

re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board

Riv has a good idea, further refined by Capn...there should be general topics such as

Politics
Gossip
Broadway Musicals
Broadway Plays
Homework
My Favorite Posters
Broadway Creators
Classic Musicals
The "Officials"
Gay Icons
Gay Icons' Pets
The TONYS
Sock Puppets

The mind boggles at the variations. re: My thoughts on BWW Message Board
