I have been bombarded by trailers of ABOUT TIME for MONTHS. I was sick of them. It made me not want to see the movie. I'm so happy that I chose to see it tonight.
Once every few years, there are films that surprise you with unexpected delight. Tonight, I experienced that rare feeling of being introduced to a new film that will be one of those that I will remember for a long time. When someone asks me for a list of favorite films...this may be included.
I'm still digesting the storytelling that just ended. I'll be thinking about this film for a long time.
Writer/Director Richard Curtis delivers a romantic poem through film of just how fragile and precious life is...without shouting it to your face.
After seeing the trailer, I thought I would be turned off by the absurd notion of its fictional element: time travel. However, you accept the circumstance as truth very easily and early in the film, which allows you to receive the journey that the characters will experience. It's very well-crafted and I do hope Curtis will be considered come Oscar time for his screenplay.
Do yourself a favor and go see this work of art.

Just got back from seeing this film. I agree 100%. The time travel aspect didn't bother me at all. It was used to focus our attention on our core values of love and friendship. It is a lovely film about life. Parts were very moving and it was carried off with a very humorous spirit.
I suspect that Bill Nighy could make reading the Yellow Pages fun.

Posted: 11/2/13 at 1:30amI'm glad to see good word of mouth. In Canada, anyway, but maybe it's the same as the US, the current TV trailers seem to feature as much of Love Actually (not just text saying it's from the same creator, but full on scenes) as the film itself. Which seemed like a bad sign.
