Just yesterday (I'm on AIM for Mac) I started getting this pop-up when I sign on, that's an AIM Mail status window, with a linked e-mail address that's my screen name @aim.com. Does anyone know how I make it go away? I go into my settings, and there's a tab for it, but it just sits there loading for ages. Help!
I can't help as I refuse to use AIM for Mac. I much prefer using iChat which incorporates AOL IM.
The same thing happened to me - I figure it is an attempt to get me to install AIM mail on my computer - which I will not. Right now, I just close the box and ignore it. But, if anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them as well.
I'm scared of iChat. I'll learn it eventually.
I was too! But trust me, Luv, it's simple pimple and it's also quite pretty.
I'm really stuck in my ways; like, it upsets me that iChat organizes my buddy list differently.
"Buddy groups are great: The core of iChat is its Buddy List window, and with this new version the window is much improved, thanks to much better support for AIM’s buddy groups. iChat’s previous group support involved a bad pop-up/drawer interface, which has been replaced with a simple set of headers that appear above all the buddies in a particular group. Clicking on the header collapses or displays the contents of a group. Transferring buddies is a drag-and-drop operation. And finally I can organize my Buddy List, which has been bursting at the seams."
organize your buddies
This seemed to disappear -
So I am going to repost it:
Go to My AIM
Go to Edit Options
Go to Edit Preferences
Go to Mail and uncheck all of the boxes
See if that helps.
It at least stopped the Little AIM Icon from having the mailbox come out of his a$$ every second.
I am not sure if it will stop the box appearing when you startup the computer.
I haven't got a mail tab in my preferences. Are you on a PC, YouWantitwhen?
Yep - I am on a PC - and the Mail setting is under the category listing.
It says AOL Instanet Messenger Prefernces, and mail is included there, right under the away message settings.
Oh, okay. It's set up differently on a Mac. I found the email tab, but it says it has to query the host computer, sits there, and then says there was a problem doing so. grrr.
Bleech.
It reminds me of the AIM bots that just appeared one day.
For shopping and something else - those puppies got removed pretty quickly as well.
Good luck - someone on this Board will know how to help ya I am sure.
I have a few AIM Bots on my list. Good for the first 5 minutes of boredom.

I had a Santa Claus bot on my buddy list. I cussed at it and everything. It was fun. *mischevious smile*
