I thought JULIA was an excellent movie.
Told a very moving TRUE story about a very unselfish woman and her involvement with the resistance movement in Europe during the 1930s. VERY tight script and direction.
And the cast! How can you go wrong with: Vanessa Redgrave, Jane Fonda, Jason Robards, Maximillian Schell, Hal Holbrook and Cathleen Nesbitt.
Robards and Redgrave both won Supporting Oscars.
Note of Trivia: Meryl Streep made her film debut in JULIA--I believe she is in only one scene.
I went to a screening for it.
Annette Bening was luminous.
How do you get to go to all these screenings??
Oh MY... I did it AGAIN.
I read thread title too quickly... I'm sorry, I don't know anything about BEING Julia.
Gov, I go for work. The movie studios are clients...
I also saw it i na screening. I loved Annete Bening.

I found BEING JULIA to be wonderfully enjoyable. It was funny, with unexpected twists. Bening give a special performance. Irons and Gambon also give fine turns. The young man [Shaun Evans (?)]is good-looking and nuanced in his shallowness to make himself utterly believable and transparent. Stevenson give a funny performance as Julia's maid. Rosemary Harris and Rita Tushingham are luminous but unfortunately on screen for only a few minutes.
A favorite line of ine, and I paraphrase:
Julia (weeping): I'm a no-good bitch. And a slut.
Her husband (consoling her through her tears): Nevertheless. (PAUSE) You're a brilliant actress.
If you like the world of the theatre, how can one not help but enjoy BEING JULIA?
