ATChat

Is anyone else fed up with ATC? Amongst other things - it seems to be run in a fashion on a dictatorship...

I've never been on ATC....should I?

I can't keep up over there. But, I do go to ATC vegas all the time, being from Vegas & all.

re: ATChat

It's a case of apples and oranges. There are good and bad things about each site. I rarely post there anymore, but do tend to glance at it every day or two. Basically, I'm more "at home" here.

re: ATChat

Same here, iflitifloat. But a lot of the posters there are really passionate about theater. Did you see the thread that was trying to work out the chronology of Follies? It was crazy-in a good way.

re: ATChat

There's a handful of really smart and really insightful posters over there. I still read the board just to see what they're saying.

And I like message boards run like dictatorships, seriously.

re: ATChat

As long as it's a benevolent dictator, so do I. Better than complete chaos- boards like that always turn into cliquish bores.

re: ATChat

I agree. There are some very smart people over there, and very passionate, spirited threads. It's just the underside of both this site and that one that drive me crazy - the first preview attackers, with dire pronouncements of "they can never fix it in time," and actors, writers, directors getting their careers sliced up by neophytes or the jaded. Creating theatre, even bad theatre, is such a difficult process. One can be thoughtfully critical of something that doesn't work, without expressing utter glee over the failure of a particular artist whose work they generally don't enjoy. I'm often taken aback by the sheer vitriol that is put forth by people that call themselves "theatre lovers".

re: ATChat

I was just talking about this very subject with my very good friends Stephen Sondheim and Bernadette Peters over lunch the other day, so it's funny you bring it up.

re: ATChat

I'm a seasoned theater goer. I never take glee in failures, and I respect artists tremendously-never wanted to be one, but I'm amazed at what they can do. However, I can be grouchy when spending $100 for a show. If the theater community has the nerve to charge $100, I have the right to bitch. And if Susan Stroman is charging me $90 to watch Chris Kattan in the Frogs when she and Nathan Lane should know better, then I will be extremely grouchy.

Fair enough. :) It's just the gossip-mongering **** that gets tiring.

re: ATChat

I cant stand reading ATC. The layout is horrid and its very boring. I like the characters we have on this board...it makes it more interesting.

re: ATChat

That's too funny! Do tell Bea to give me a call. I haven't seen her since Shirley Maclaine's Christmas party last year when her, Debbie Reynolds, Lauren Bacall and I all got drunk and sang "Blame Canada"

Oh my Matt, I was at that party, too! How did we miss each other? I was on the arm of Alfred Drake. We came in late, however, as we were hopping from Marc Shaiman's Chanukah bash and then stopped by Carol Burnette's for drinks with her and Liza.

Oh, the stories I could tell you about that dear thing....

re: ATChat

I love ATC, but lately it's been so freaking slow it's sick.

I remember a time when I could go there a few hours after posting a message and the board had moved so fast it had already dropped off....

Now I post a message and a few days later I can still find it on the board.

re: ATChat

It hasn't been as fast since the board rehaul a while ago. I guess some people didn't confirm their registration, or whatever it was that had to be done.

re: ATChat

Don't worry, Matt, Bea mentioned to me that she owed you a call and drinks. I'm sure you'll be hearing from her soon.

And that party was a hoot, eh? Who else but Debbie could get away with flashing the room??? Carrie was mortified, but she's no fun anymore anyway.

Rath, did you SEE Ann Miller!? She was SLOSHED. Don't tell anyone I said this, but Patti told me that Carol told Bea that someone slipped something into Ann's cosmo. Not that any names were mentioned.... Len Cariou, what?

re: ATChat

Oh please. Like anyone ever had to slip anything into that broad's drinks...
