After receiving the Oscar in 1962 he said: "I believe that a writer worth his salt at all has an obligation not only to entertain but to comment on the world in which he lives, not only to comment, but maybe have a shot at reshaping the world."
I love that quote, and I think it's exactly what's wrong with so many screenplays and plays these days. So many writers are satisfied with merely commenting. They're afraid to make a statement, to actually think. To try to make sense out if it, and perhaps change it. They just comment, which to me is so very ordinary.

I remember seeing the movie @ The Palace in NY when it was showing films.
I actually have the souvenir book from the film. So many great performances in it, it is hard to pick just one.

Mr. Roxy, I would love to see that souvenir book.
In particular I love Dietrich in that film.
"I'm a daughter of the military...Control hunger. Control thirst. It has served me well."

I remember when "Zodiac" came out last year, I kept thinking that Abby Mann could write CIRCLES around this story, and DID "back in the day."
I even posted that Zodiac was a "poor man's" Abby Mann screenplay.
...and now the master of that particular style is gone...
