Hello! Does anyone know how schools typically send out there acceptance/ rejection letters? Do they usually send them all out at the same time, send out acceptance first, hold on to kids on the waiting list? I was just curious because I auditioned for BFA acting and about 3 weeks ago the woman at the front desk said that she would be sending out letters that day and I haven't received anything yet. It has been a nerve racking 3 weeks and I’m just looking for answers anywhere I can get them. I am worried that mine got lost in the mail and I can't really contact anyone because its christmas break. Blah.

They all come at different times. I got some by email in February and March and then some didn't come until April. But admissions people are usually more than happy to let you know whats going on. By tomorrow they should all be back.

I know its just that I contacted the woman at the front desk 3 weeks ago and she said she was sending them out that very day so that’s why I’m curious about if they typically send out acceptance first and wait 3 weeks to send rejection? Or if they sent both and mine could have gotten lost on the mail? Or maybe they sent out both and I could be on some sort of waiting list. I’m just trying to figure out how schools usually do their letters because I’m driving myself crazy with worry because I think if I haven’t gotten one by now that its probably a no.

I know when I applied for NYU's Dramatic Writing program (and my friend said the same thing when she applied the year before) in 2005, they sent out the acceptance letters a week before the rejection letters.

I remember hearing about all of the kids getting accepted. People in the program said it didn't mean anything if you hadn't heard from them yet.... which was false. Because the rest of us posted on the forum a week later saying we were rejected. So.... usually, acceptees get their letters first.

Some schools also send out acceptances alphabetically in groups.
